TO POSSESS POETS

To possess poets is a myth
They can be paid, but no one can own them
(Not even the verses of praise to those who offer them soup.)
But it is possible to possess a myth:
It only takes to create one
(but no woman conceives alone…
– nor does any man…)

The best way is to give them nothing
For they feel,
At the same time,
That everything is already theirs
Without deserving anything.

They must feel, at the same time,
That they are poor and will remain poor
(Though immensely rich, needing everything.)
The operation of giving nothing, purely symbolic,
Is delicate, slow, drawn-out
(Another challenge is to stretch time –
A single minute is enough if well understood…)

Giving them nothing is, for those who only wish,
To be left with nothing until becoming their equal
(Another pitfall of the recipe, achievable by few
Without undoing themselves.)

When the operation is complete
The poet is left alone.
But within them lies the one who desires them
(Evidently transubstantiated.)
