Adelaide Comic Creators And Fans -FFF-

in South Australia4 years ago

The only thing I could see was a colour, more orange than pink, behind my eyelids as I sat embracing the warmth of the early afternoon sun. Amongst the warmth covering my body, there was a slightly hotter sensation coming from in between my thumb and index finger. I opened my eyes to see my left hand holding and empty 600ml bottle of Coke No Sugar and tiny ant sinking it’s mandibles into the flesh of my left hand. Silly ant! I brushed it off and continued to wait for the train.

I was on my way into the city for the monthly Adelaide Comic Creators and Fans get together at the Cafe Brunelli. This would be the last one for the foreseeable future as the world slowly moves towards shutting down. Most of my social events have been cancelled, and I know certain hotels are going to be closing for the time being. Interesting times, but I am not alarmed.
I’m a social isolation expert, not by choice mind you...

I arrived a little late, but took he opportunity to take a few photos along Rundle Mall, an entire street dedicated to shopping in the Central Business District or CBD in the middle of the city.

k7qjhm.jpgRegent Arcade - beautiful old architecture.

The Regent Arcade is a massive multi-storey arcade filled with various shops, nostalgia and history.
My new favourite comic shop is now situated there too.

Mike Cooper, author of the comic book and soon-to-be video game: Universal Gun, greeted me and introduced me to a few of the other artists and comic fans already seated around the table, already covered with various comics of yesteryear, and the occasional newly purchased trade paperback.

I sat at the head of the table and greeted everyone, not out of arrogance, but convenience. :)
A waiter came up and took all of the menus away and another waiter came and delivered two large pizzas, one vegetarian and the other a meat lover’s soon after I sat down.

Two extreme factions in the same location, still managing to live cohesively. There’s a lesson there, folks! I had multiple slices of both amazing pizzas, and I would easily recommend them to anyone.

We discussed current events, various writers and artists, comics and TV shows as usual.
It’s good because people have all sorts of different tastes.

Speaking of different tastes, I saw someone else have some icecream and I couldn’t let the opportunity pass without getting some myself. :)

It was incredible! This was two scoops worth and there were 12 flavours to choose from. I stuck with chocolate for now, but I will be more adventurous next time!

Cafe Brunelli also has a wide range of sweets, cookies, chocolates and even cheesecakes to choose from. I am not sure who’s ordering entire cheesecakes, but there’s clearly a market for them.

A diabetic’s nightmare to be sure. Chuckle.

The meeting went from 2pm until about 5pm when our tables were required for another booking.
I find them fun because I can always learn some new drawing techniques and styles. It’s been a while since I have done any drawing and these meetings can often be an incentive to get pencil to paper again and maybe show off some art.

Now that I am self isolating, I might as well do something constructive.
If you’re in Adelaide and would like to meet some comic creators, artists, writers, and other fans then these casual meetings are quite fun. I can’t wait for the meeting to start again so we can
get our geek on!

I am not sure of the status of the Food Fight Friday competition, but I wanted to post this anyway.
Until then, see you in your own kitchen (from a safe distance).
Stay safe and don’t panic.

HIVE IS ALIVE!!!

JOIN US, YOU'LL HAVE EXACTLY THE SAME BALANCE AS YOU HAVE HERE ON STEEM WITHOUT THE CENTRALIZATION AND CENSORSHIP!!

Maybe the ant sniffed out your old leech bite and peer pressure got the better of him :)

Hi there

I've been reading through many comments related to new hive chain and I've seen your comment too. Many users are being torn, however majority seem to be moving to new hive.

Are you fully moving there or will you stay on both chains? Just curious. I'm trying to figure out what to do myself.

I'm all Hive now; and would encourage others to move across. I'm not sure which chain will perform the best financially (although I have my theories), but for decentralisation and censorship resistance, Hive all the way :)

Big Thx for your reply. I think i will stick around on both chains for time being.

I also figured that you may find this post interesting and worth your time:
