Hunt For The Letter R - An Alphabet Hunt Challenge

in Feel Good4 years ago

Hello hunters of letters! We can now all breathe a sigh of relief now that the tricky letter Q is way past behind us. It's time for the letter R. But before I reveal the spoils of my hunt some proper acknowledgments are in order. This Alphabet Hunt Challenge is an initiative of @barbara-orenya in the Feel Good Community. It still is not too late to join this enjoyable challenge. Just check on the link here and hop on board. It's a really really cool Steemit experience.

So without further ado, here are my R words.

The first "R" word is for Rangoon Creeper

Combretum indicum, also known as the Rangoon creeper or Chinese honeysuckle, is a vine with red flower clusters and native to tropical Asia. The Rangoon creeper is a ligneous vine that can reach from 2.5 meters to up to 8 meters. The leaves are elliptical with an acuminate tip and a rounded base. The flowers are fragrant and tubular and their color varies from white to pink to red. - Wikipedia

This is a neighbor's plant which I pass by everyday to and from work. It's just by the roadside and is such a joy to look at.

The second "R" word is for Resort

This is the entrance to the Costa Marina Beach Resort located very near our city. It is one of our favorite resorts to spend an enjoyable time in the beach. Photo above is the walkway guests take coming down from the boat heading towards the entrance.

The view of the resort from the walkway. Practically empty as this was a week day.

This is the area where we set up our tables and lounging chairs before we swim. The water looks very cool under the shade.

The third "R" word is for Rook

The Rook is one of the pieces in a chess set. It is the next powerful piece after the queen. Both opposing colors (white and black) have 2 of each.

The fourth "R" word is for Roof

These are my neighbors' roofs which I always capture in my camera whenever I try to photograph birds or clouds.

The fifth "R" word is Rusticate

The Oxford dictionary defines Rusticate as a verb meaning go to, live in, or spend time in the country. These are photos of a trip to a mountain resort in Buda, about an hour and a half drive from our city, to have a day of relaxation and enjoy the cool climate of the highland countryside.

The sixth "R" word is Relic

There are three classes of sacred relics. The first-class is a part of the saints body. (It is this type which is placed in an altar stone.) The second-class is a piece of the saints clothing or something used by the saint, while the third-class is an object which has been touched to a first-class relic. (catholiceducation.org)

The photos above shows a medal that holds a relic from the robe of St. Padre Pio of Pietrelcina, making it a second class relic. That's the brown round spot in the center. The back shows the image of the holy man.

Bonus Word - Reliquary

The photo below also shows a first class relic, a part of the incorrupt heart of St. Camillus de Lellis, the patron saint of the sick. The relic is enclosed in what is called a reliquary which means a container for holy relics.
