My Best Day (21 November 2024) |

Today is one of the happiest days of my life for three reasons. The main one is that I’m going to my village home, seeking a breath of fresh air away from the mechanical life.
The day began with a lot of busyness. Since my mother-in-law was bidding us farewell, she didn’t go to work. We all woke up a bit late, then prepared breakfast together. After having breakfast, we finished some chores, and I told my mother and elder sister to take their showers. I then took mine after helping my mother-in-law with some cooking. Once I was done, I went to the kitchen for a bit. Since we were leaving for home, lunch was prepared earlier than usual. We all enjoyed lunch together. The food was delicious, though I didn’t eat much since I’d be traveling. For the journey, we prepared some noodles and packed some fruits.
After lunch, we got ready and left the house after bidding our goodbyes. We hired a CNG autorickshaw and headed straight to Narayanganj railway station. Within ten minutes of our arrival, the train reached the station. Had we been any later, getting seats would have been a hassle. My husband bought the tickets, and we boarded the train.

The train from Narayanganj departed for Dhaka at 1:35 PM.The train was packed with people, and many had to travel standing. There were no empty seats due to the crowd.
We reached Kamalapur station by 2:30 PM and headed to platform number five. There, we were surprised to learn that trains had been halted all day due to a strike by auto-rickshaw and rickshaw drivers in Mohakhali, who had blocked roads. This caused some tension as my elderly mother, who can’t sit for long periods, was with us.
To pass the time, I showed my nephew around Kamalapur station. Meanwhile, my husband bought two books to relieve the boredom. We sat on the platform reading and chatting. My mother, sister, nephew, husband, and I spent some time talking and eating fruits, but time seemed to drag on. Finally, at 4:20 PM, train services resumed, giving us some relief.
My husband and I went to the washroom to freshen up but found it crowded. Journalists were present, covering the events of the day.
As the clock ticked away, the wait became even more tiresome. To lift our spirits, we went to a shop and bought a cake.

Evening arrived as one train after another departed, but there was no sign of ours. People were restless, eager to reach their destinations. We grew tired from waiting so long. Finally, our train arrived at Kamalapur. We quickly boarded, arranged our luggage above the seats, and settled down. It was a relief to see my mother and sister seated comfortably.
After everything was set, we waited for the train to depart. During this time, we had our dinner. At 7:45 PM, the train finally left Dhaka, heading towards our village home. The thought of returning home filled my heart with joy.
