A friend of mine shared this story with me and I thought it wise to share here.
There was a blind boy who sat by the street begging for money for his daily bread. He had a board that read "i am blind, please help me". Very few people gave him coins to buy a good meal. Then one day an old man was passing by. He dropped some coins into the blind boy's pan, took his board and wrote something else. When the man left, he noticed that a lot of people started giving him money and he was happy but curious on what changed. Days later, he recognized the foot steps of that man who changed the writing on his board and he asked what he wrote on his board that make people help him more. The man told him that the wrote the truth but in a totally different way, he wrote; "today is a beautiful day but I can't see it".
Looking at this story, i can say many of us don't get what we want because of how we phrase it or make it appear. This boy wrote that he was blind and needed help but that didn't really move people. When the old jam rephrased the sentence, it made it more touching because people walking past this boy then noticed the beautiful day,. probably appreciated God for their physical completeness and therefore had pity for the boy.
Most often than not, we are not grateful for the simple things of life until we lose it. One will probably not pray and thank God for good health until they are on the sick bed and reminiscing the times when they were fit.
We should learn to be conscious of nature, the clean air, the fact that we are complete, alive and living. Let's not be ignorant and later end up saying " had i known", "i wish I could turn back the hands of time".
