After the situation with one of our servers in the past few days, I decided to look again at the performance of the cloud hosting platform. DigitalOcean is an American-based company, which launched its first server in 2011. Before picking this platform we had some experts review it, and all results came back positive. So we went ahead and bought two droplets. A single server is called a droplet(scalable computing) which a developer will then install a Cpanel to build and run websites.

DigitalOcean is a cloud hosting platform that offers developers intuitive API, tools, etc with a robust infrastructure. It is simple to understand, and the best option is to start learning the basics of cloud computing. DigitalOcean platform is owned by an American start-up company based in New York. DigitalOcean has over a million developers using the platform over the world.

DigitalOcean offers an SSD(solid-state drive) to its users, who will then install and run user-friendly applications. An example of such an application is Froxlor. DigitalOcean cloud offers have shown to be up to standard with speed and efficiency in performance.

Pros of DigitalOcean Hosting

Uptime: For the past months, DigitalOcean has been on top performance. If not for the drop in June, they will be at 100% as shown on the screenshot below.

Loading Time: When picking a cloud hosting package, uptime is the number one thing to look at. Next will be speed, which will determine if your projects will be lagging, sluggish sites, traffic bounces, etc. Just a second in delay can crush your potential website traffic. So don't worry about the speed with DigitalOcean as their lighting fast load time marks an average of 272 ms.

Developer friendly: The platform is easy to access the different product offers, Most interesting to us (Quodatics) is the scalable computing platform called droplets. Developers can then use the droplets to customize and run their projects, which they can monitor, and add storage depending on your needs. DigitalOcean has the optimized and standard, so it is left to the developer to decide what they will need.

Customizable Prices: DigitalOcean operates like the pay-as-you-go scheme, meaning you can customize every aspect you will be using. start from your storage, CPU, bandwidth, database, memory, etc. This supper benefits users who know what they need. They had a starting pricing of $5, which can only move above if you exceed your quotes.

Daily Backup: Losing data within the online space is a very sensitive concern, with DigitalOcean you can always restore your data within 7 days,

Security: DigitalOcean offers one of the best platforms where user data and traffic is always secure. Emphasizing security is important when looking at host providers. DigitalOcean has worked to make sure ill-willed connections and viruses are out of the system. DigitalOcean volumes are encrypted, which is an added layer of security.

Cons of DigitalOcean Hosting

For Advanced User: DigitalOcean claims to be a starting point, Big Lie. you have to have some advanced level development to be able to understand most of the jargon in the documentation. The use of so much jargon with explanation makes the whole thing complicated.

Basic Features: To compare to other host providers, DigitalOcean thinks above the advanced user. They forget about the basic user and the features they need, for example, site migration, SSL certificate, etc. For most of this, you have to find a way to bring in third parties to code them yourself.

Customer Support: DigitalOcean is still to show a 100% level of 24/7 support. For now, you will have to reach them through their website, adding other options will be perfect.

Complicated Cpanel: As I say, the platform will be cool if you have a good level of programming languages. With digital Ocean, you will have to get your droplet and install your Cpanel. You need to follow some series of commands to successfully have a Cpanel, which you to build your website. This step is not for beginners, with no experience in coding, this is not an option for you.

To conclude my review, I will still recommend DigitalOcean any time to anyone who is a developer. If you are new in web development, okay you better look somewhere else. They are better user-friendly products offered by other providers which are cheap. The problem you might be facing will be uptime, which DigitalOcean will have an offer to you. We are currently using DigitalOcean and Froxlor as our Cpanel.
