Beyond the Books!
Greetings, Steem mates. I suppose we're all doing great today.
Some students I trained in April 2024 have been doing excellent work in public speaking. Rachel and Larissa, both students at the Florence Nightingale Higher Institution of State Registered Nurses, have been visiting schools in Bamenda to give skill acquisition and career orientation talks. Recently, they were granted permission to speak for two hours at a larger school than usual, and they were feeling a bit overwhelmed.
The Process
They asked me to join them to ease the pressure, but I told them that I am not certain that I would be available on Thursday. Instead, I suggested we meet today to practice their presentations and provide feedback. We spent three hours discussing their strengths, areas for improvement, and strategies to make their presentations relevant to their audience. We also talked about identifying and maximizing opportunities in the field and delivering impactful presentations.
I'm incredibly proud of Rachel and Larissa for taking the initiative to seek opportunities and address a real need. Many students lack proper career guidance, and their work is invaluable. I can personally relate to this, as I suffered from a lack of orientation in school, which had significant consequences.
While I could have accompanied them, I believe it's better for them to face their fears head-on. By preparing them thoroughly, I hope they will gain confidence and deliver a powerful presentation at St. Joseph's College tomorrow.
It was an honor to assist Rachel and Larissa. I wish them all the best for their presentation and hope it leaves a lasting impact on the students.
Cheers!
Let's keep building!
