Idle Assets!

The other day, I shared with my little brothers, 14yo and 10yo that I would be leading a public speaking training at the University of Bamenda, and I was very excited about it.

Later, my little brother looked at me and said, "Big brother! I believe you will be rich this year." I asked, "You do?" He responded, "Yes, I do," and I smiled and passionately said, "Amen!"

It felt so good to hear that, and I was curious why he said it. I asked him, "Why do you say so?" He responded, "Many people are saying that your speeches are good." I hadn't expected that; I thought he would say it because he believes in me.

As I savored my sweet baby brother's kind words, it dawned on me that it doesn't matter how much people believe in you or wish you well. If you don't do the work—take action—nothing will happen. You will remain in the same place. The only changes will be that you've grown older, with more responsibilities, debts, unmet needs, and perhaps even depression.

My encouragement to us all is to strive to take action on the good information we gather because knowledge is only power when put into practice.

As we do so, it's important to remember that the worst person to lie to is yourself. Looking active doesn't equate to being productive. Many people appear very busy but, if they were honest with themselves, are accomplishing little. Don't be like many people.

It's easy to get caught up in the appearance of activity, attending meetings, sending emails, and making calls, without actually moving closer to our goals. True productivity requires focused effort, strategic planning, and consistent execution. It means prioritizing tasks, eliminating distractions, and measuring progress.

God is always willing to play His part. Are you willing to play yours? Don't deceive yourself with the illusion of busyness. Be honest about your efforts and commit to taking meaningful action. This year, let's not just talk about our dreams; let's work towards them. Do not let your assets idle.

Happy New Year!
