Good day steaming Steemians, I pray you all are doing great today. Whom amongst you has ever been promised something? How have you been behaving or feeling as you waited?

A promise is a declaration and assurance that one will do something. When our Lord Jesus Christ was lifted up to heaven, a promise was made about His return.

And when he had spoken these things, while they beheld, he was taken up; and a cloud received him out of their sight. And while they looked stedfastly toward heaven as he went up, behold, two men stood by them in white apparel; Which also said, Ye men of Galilee, why stand ye gazing up into heaven? this same Jesus, which is taken up from you into heaven, shall so come in like manner as ye have seen him go into heaven.
- Acts 1:9-11

If you have rightly defined somebody's worth, when that person tells you he is coming, certainly you will prepare well to receive that person. Take for instance, a boy in the university whose girl friend is paying him a visit, or a groom to-be is visiting the future in-laws, the governor of your town says he's paying you a visit etc., we all know the manner and extent to which preparations will be made. Yet, there is a lot of unbelieve and mockery (in the days of old and today) going on about Christ's promise of returning.

(4)And saying, Where is the promise of his coming? for since the fathers fell asleep, all things continue as they were from the beginning of the creation.
(8)But, beloved, be not ignorant of this one thing, that one day is with the Lord as a thousand years, and a thousand years as one day.
(9)The Lord is not slack concerning his promise, as some men count slackness; but is longsuffering to us-ward, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance.
- 2 Peter 3:4,8,9

Our God can never be mocked because He is very true to his words and promises. The two reasons why it seems to many unbelievers that God isn't true about His return are;

  • Firstly, the Lord God is a very patient God and doesn't want any one to suffer. He is waiting for everyone to come to repentance. All those God wants to be saved are not yet saved. This is where our responsibility steps in, we have to preach the gospel (especially the good news I mentioned in my previous post) so that many can be saved before He comes. Soul winning is Gods heart beat, that's why according to 1 Corinthians 10:32, the bible condemns anyone who intentionally or inadvertently derails another from the path of righteousness

The Lord is not slack concerning his promise, as some men count slackness; but is longsuffering to us-ward, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance.
- 2 Peter 3:9

  • Secondly, our judgement of "how long" isn't correct. We don't judge time the way God perceives time. A thousand years before the Lord is like a day. So when people say things like "since that he said he is coming, where then is he?”, that word "since" to God is just like yesterday. So when the right day comes, He certainly will be here.

If we are believers in Christ, who believe that he died and rose again, then we should also believe on His return. When we have this consciousness, we will have the push to keep walking with him untill He comes. For this reason, we will be about His business doing His work so that when He comes we will receive our reward from Him. The reward will be according to each persons work.

Therefore, my beloved brethren, be ye stedfast, unmoveable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, forasmuch as ye know that your labour is not in vain in the Lord.
- 1 Corinthians 15:58

We should be ready at all times because we don't know when He will come. He will come like a thief in the "night". The good news is that we believers don't live in the "night". He will come at "night" for the unsaved.

So Christ was once offered to bear the sins of many; and unto them that look for him shall he appear the second time without sin unto salvation.
Hebrews 9:28

Dear Steemians, the truths is established that Christ will return but the time is what we aren't aware of. So the questions that should be going on in our minds are;
. What should I be doing before He returns?
. What rapport should I keep with my fellow brother or sister in Christ or better still, the saints?
. Have I received Christ and salvation(water baptism)?
. How many souls or lost sheep have I brought back into the flock?
. What will be the nature of my reward when He comes?
. Do I have a shepherd to guide me on this path of righteousness or not?

Dear Steemians, while you ponder on the above questions, I wish to thank you for following up till this moment and I hope you were blessed too. While waiting for the next mind intriguing topic, I wish you an amazing week ahead filled with God's richest blessings.

Amen 🙏. We shall keep on waiting on the Lord for His time is best. It is certain that he is coming soon. We should even be more concerned about carrying out the divine assignment he gave us (winning souls).
