Cameroon: How well do you know the city of Bamenda call Abakwa and it's environs, it's history, it's famous hotel, palaces, administrative buildings and touristic sites.

     Historic origins

The origins of the city are related to the establishment of the Tikar people who joined the kingdom of Bamum in the 1700s.
In 1884,the city was colonised by Germany until 1916 when it became a colony administered by Great Britain.

Bamenda, also known as Abakwa and Mankon Town,is a city in the north Western Cameroon and capital of the North West Region.
The city has a population of about one million people and is the 4th ranked city of Cameroon, well others say it's the 3rd biggest city.

 Touristic attractions
  1. The mountains terrains around the city and it's environs afford scenic views such as that from the Sabga Mountain over the Ndop plain.
    From the top of Sabga hill you will have a wonderful view over the whole area, with hills, valley, and waterfalls dotting the beautiful landscape.

2.The mankon Fon's palace with it's newly constructed museum,it's one of the best preserve palaces and home to the traditional Achum: one of the oldest building in the whole of Central Africa.

3.the Savanna Botanic garden located in Bafut around 10km form bamenda.it is roughly 17 .58 hectares in size.The garden is home to more than 260 species of plants which includes in a herbarium,a nursery,an orchard,a demonstration farm, Savannah Forest, Green forest and jungle village.

14.the lake oku situated close to the village of oku as well as the biggest mountain in the area, Mount oku, this lake is a perfect place to enjoy nature as well as beautiful surroundings in a calm and relaxing atmosphere.
15.the Adawara Tea Estate and Ranch.its the biggest privately owned tea estate in the world West Africa only situated around 16km form the centre of Belo, this little town surrounded by about 5000 hectares of tea plants is definitely a must see in the north_west Region.
