What do I know about the day? |

International Day for the eradication of poverty is culled from the massive gathering in Paris in the year 1987. In our society, we noticed that we have several sets of people. In this, we have set of people who live extravagantly, other are able to foot their bills while a percentage aren't able to foot their daily bills.
The latter set are finally handicapped and this give them limitations to different things. Because of this, a class system was established and they were thrown to the bottom. In the year 1987, a massive uproar occured in Paris where the masses proclaimed that poverty is a violation of human rights. That's where the UN came in and set October 17 annually to commentate this day.

The mascot is a pictorial representation of poverty boldly written and a thick line pass through it. In the general sense, the thick line is cancelling the effect of the bolden word. In our society, we are looking for ways to eliminate the theory called poverty.

The effects of this date to the society includes
- Empowerment schemes to the masses: Since poverty was proclaimed a violation of human rights in the first gathering, the discovery was that the majority of the population were unemployed or underpaid. Because of this, Empowerment schemes were brought in their masses to curb this disturbing issues.
- Strengthen the workforce of a country: Because of this date, we now see a stronger workforce in different countries. As the people were enlightened that staying idle can attract the sense of poverty, they stood to their feet making daily needs meet. With this, the workforce of a given country is now strengthened.
Who are the active promoter, and my impact to this day |

The active promoter of this day remains the UN since they were the initiator. Also other countries of the world have joined hands to make this day a success.
In my own way of contributing to this day, I'd love to host a sensitization programme in an interior village enlightening the benefits of being engaged in profitable activities. In this way, poverty will be greatly reduced.
