My Participation in the USE LESS PLASTIC CHALLENGE by Cartedo
In support of UNESCO's Sustainable Development Goals 12, the cartedo challenge requires one to prototype an innovative product or service to help use less plastic. This is in a bid to reduce plastic pollution on land and in sea.
SDG 12: Responsible Consumption and Production
Earlier this year, I completed the challenge. Trust me, I really gained a lot from it.
Here's a preview of my completed challenge.
CHALLENGE
There is a high hazard of plastic pollution on land and sea. People find it hard to stop using or safely dispose plastic bags used in packaging and shopping. A local store can generate up to 100 non-recyclable plastic bags a day.
SOLUTION TO CHALLENGE
Solution name:

How does it help people use less plastic:
It is reusable and long lasting. More importantly, it does not contribute to pollution and is easily recyclable.
Why would people love to use this solution:
- Using tote bags for shopping and carrying groceries reduce plastic bags waste effectively.
- Tote bags are fashionable depending on the user.
- It's long lasting and does not damage easily.
- They are also more comfortable for carrying heavy materials than plastic bags.
- Everyone want a safer and cleaner environment.
There's also a skill rate for your progress during the project. Here's mine:

At the end of the challenge, I was able to gain more knowledge on design thinking. A reward and a certificate showing support by UNICEF, foundation BOTNAR and R-LABS was issued to me.
I am a Ureporter, U-Report Nigeria.
U-Report is a social messaging tool and data collection system designed by UNICEF to improve citizens engagement, inform leaders, and foster positive change in the community. The program sends SMS polls and alerts to its participants (Ureporters) to obtain real-time feedbacks, and subsequently publishes accumulated data.
