Learn with Steem || Is procrastination leading you into a black hole?
Today it happened to me that it was really hard for me to feel productive throughout the day.
There was a lot of heavy energy in me that I couldn't shake off, I couldn't even perform my Yoga practice as I usually do and all this led me to think recurrently about the word: Procrastination.
When procrastination extends over time, it can lead us to develop really negative habits and very harmful thoughts, such as feeling "good for nothing". It can slowly turn your self-image into that of someone who just can't get the job done.
Don't let it take over your life.
5 tips that can help you avoid procrastination:
- Break down the tasks to be done.
Break them into phases, and focus on one phase at a time and do it to the best of your ability, without getting ahead of the next phases.
When you finish the first one, move on to the next one.
- Create specific deadlines for your tasks.
After you have broken down your project, create a general timeline with specific deadlines for each small task.
By doing this, you become aware that you must finish each task by a certain date and this creates a sense of urgency that keeps you from procrastinating.
- Organize your day before you start it.
Planning our days in advance, for example, by writing down plans the night before, will allow you to gain tremendous organizational skills and give you extra time to accomplish each goal of the day.
- Manage your energy the same way you manage your time.
There are times of the day when we have productive peak hours and less productive hours.
Push yourself during the hours that you recognize as productive for you (in my case it's the evenings), and not when your energy levels are low. In these latter times, perform simpler or more enjoyable tasks that motivate you to move despite low energy.
- Improve your lifestyle.
Lack of energy can also be a consequence of an unhealthy lifestyle:
Exercise daily, eat better every day and exercise your mind in your free moments.
Overcoming procrastination and getting things done when it's time to do them, makes you more organized and persistent with your work or endeavor. You become a more productive and efficient person, too.
I hope we can continue to grow and manage to put aside this terrible habit.
Note: There are times when it is necessary to rest and do recreational and pleasant activities, alone or accompanied. Don't exaggerate and remember that the healthiest way is always the middle path.
