Learn Italian - Lesson 1 - Alphabet and Numbers - Steem Skillshare

in Steem Skillshare3 years ago

Hi there,

With this post I would like to start a new series of tutorial here on the steem blockchain, and in particular in the @steem.skillshare community.

Specifically I would like to teach my native language, ITALIAN.

I'm perfectly aware that it is not the most popular language out there nor the most useful, but I think that someone could be interested in learning the language of DANTE.

So let's get started!

Lesson 1 - 1 The Italian Alphabet

The beginning, for any foreign language learning, is always the alphabet.

Here the list of the Italian alphabet from A to Z associated with the most famous cities of the Bel Paese, this is very useful for taking the first steps in the language and in our lands.

The Italian alphabet consists of 5 vowels, 16 consonant nti Italian and 5 foreign consonants.

The vowels are: A - E - I - O - U

The Italian consonants are: B - C - D - F - G - H - L - M - N - P - Q - R - S - T - V - Z

The foreign consonants are: J - K - W - X - Y

Here are all the letters of the Italian alphabet in order (associated with some of the most beautiful cities in Italy, useful when you need to spell a word!):

LetterCity
AAncona
BBologna
CCagliari
DDomodossola
EEnna
FFirenze
GGenova
HHotel
IIsernia
LLivorno
MMilano
NNapoli
OOtranto
PPalermo
QQuarto
RRoma
SSassari
TTorino
UUrbino
VVenezia
ZZagarolo

Foreign letters are used only in words of foreign origin, therefore there are no Italian cities that begin with a foreign consonant! Here are some foreign words that have entered the Italian vocabulary:

Lesson 1-2 The Numbers

SOURCE

Single-digit numbers

NumberWord
1Uno
2Due
3Tre
4Quattro
5Cinque
6Sei
7Sette
8Otto
9Nove

"Irregular" two-digit numbers

NumberWord
11Undici
12Dodici
13Tredici
14Quattordici
15Qindici
16Sedici
17Diciassette
18Diciotto
19Diciannove

Two-digit numbers with a zero

NumberWord
10Dieci
20Venti
30Trenta
40Quaranta
50Cinquanta
60Sessanta
70Settanta
80Ottanta
90Novanta

For other numbers, "regular" digit exists a kind of rule: just merge the number with the zero and the one-digit number by making a "addition" .

NumberWord"Addition"
25VentiCinque20+5
36TrentaSei30+6
49QuarantaNove40+9

and so on.

the numbers Uno ( 1 ) and Otto ( 8 ) start with a vowel , therefore, when joining them with the numbers with zero (which end with a vowel ), you must remember not to pronounce (or write) the final vowel of thenumber with zero . Here are some examples:

NumberWord"Addition"
21VentUno20+1
38TrentOtto30+8
61SessantUno60+1

Let's move on!

Three-digit numbers with two zeros

NumberWord
100Cento
200DueCento
300TreCento
400QuattroCento
500CinqueCento
600SeiCento
700SetteCento
800OttoCento
900NoveCento

As you can see, except for the first (Cento), all other 3-digit numbers with two zeros are formed by joining the single- digit number + one hundred .

To form the other three-digit numbers it will be sufficient to perform another “addition”. Here are some examples:

NumberWord"Addition"
122CentoVentiDue100+20+2
156CentoCinquataSei100+50+6
235DueCentoTrentaCinque2+100+30+5

Finally, we have four-digit numbers with three zeros ; to form them just join the single- digit number with the word " MILLA ", except for a Mille (1000). Here's the list:

NumberWord
1000Mille
2000DueMila
3000TreMila
4000QuattroMila
5000CinqueMila
6000SeiMila
7000SetteMila
8000OttoMila
9000NoveMila

For all other four-digit numbers, the addition rule always applies:

NumberWord"Addition"
1977MilleNovecentoSettantaSette1000+900+70+7
2123DueMilaCentoVentiTre2000+100+20+3

Big numbers are:

Millions

NumberWord
1000000UnMilione
2000000DueMilioni

Billions

NumberWord
1000000UnMiliardo
2000000DueMiliardi

For the first lesson I think it is enough, thanks for reading!
