Do you like to study korean language? Have you tried korean food? Did you watch korean drama? Do you know that korean community on Steemit earns the most?

Today as you already know we continue to study one of the most polite languages in the world. Korean Language officially has 7 levels of politeness. Korean people created longer endings to show respect and politeness. If you see the short forn then most probably you see the informal form of the word.
The phrase I am going to teach today is 뭐라고. This is super common phrase and it is used in many different contexts.

Context

  • between friends to express surprise
  • in fighting to show aggression and start protecting

Situation 1

You and another person are angry. One maybe insulated you. And you say: " What did you say???"

Situation 2

Someone like friend of you started saying to you some nonsense and your reaction is to use this phrase.

I chose this phrase for this reason so you must be careful when you use it with native speakers as it may sound rude and can lead to misunderstanding.

The long form is 뭐라고 말하세요? It means what did you just say?

Grammar Point

Noun + (이)라고 하다 ( at the of the verb)

  • in quotes
  • in imperative commands
가라고 해요. Tell sb to go
