The Dream of Steem Falls Mainly To Hive

Steem is dead

Since it's inception, steem has been accused of being dead. Ol' Bernie had some pretty choice words during the PoW phase of the chain. When the rewards curve changed, steem was dead. When the split between author and curator changed, steem was dead. Many smaller things in between have aroused the cry of "steem is dead".

So, then, eyeroll? Not the first time steem has been declared dead. Won't be the last time.

Whether or not steem is dead depends on what "steem" means to you. When I speak of steem, I'm talking about a DPoS blockchain with social interaction and a reward token. A blog rewards token called "steem" is not dead and will probably live as long as the Tron chain survives. Steem as DPoS blockchain, however has died. Once the genesis stake was wielded as a tool to control the blockchain itself, steem ended.

The steem chain continues as a backdrop for one person to enjoy as they please. There is no distributed stake that matters. In addition to the genesis stake, the individual in full control of this chain also controls an exchange and has willingly used it against the steem blockchain in the past.

This is still a blogging platform. It still has a transferable reward. It is still a blockchain. It's more like a plain PoS blockchain where someone premined a significant amount of the reward pool and is willing to power up customer stake from an exchange for their use.

The reason I came here, that social experiment called DPoS, is no longer here. As an idea, steem lives on. It lives on as the Hive blockchain. It's the same dumpster fire we had on steem when people were allowed to disagree, negotiate, air grievances against steemit, and generally accuse each other of not playing fair. It's the same huge whales with the same huge stakes making the same calls.... and that is exactly where steem was in it's evolution. Steem failed because of itself. Steem had too much infighting and even though that stopped for a while when it was attacked by Sun, some just wanted to start over. And enough agreed to where steem will become irrevelant.

I suspect we'll find out that DPoS is all about infighting :D
