Holi In Nepal

in #holi7 years ago

Holi, festival of colors, is a hindu spring festival celebrated mostly across Nepal and India. It is also celebrated across some other Asian countries like Bangladesh,Pakistan mostly by hindu peoples. This festival signifies the victory of good over evil, end of winter and arrival of spring. Holi is not just a play and enjoy festival but it also helps to heal the broken relationships, forget and forgive the past and brings the near ones much closer.

It lasts for two days starting from the evening of the Purnima and the very next day. Just a day before holi, i.e. evening of purnima, is celebrated by preparing a big bonfire and performing religious rituals around it.It is also called as Holika Dahan. This evening is named after Holika, an evil sister of a demon king Hiranyakashipu, who was killed in fire.

The day after Holika Dahan is the day when people smear each other with colours and play Holi.Water guns and water balloons makes holi much more enjoying. Many events like Matka Phod, concerts, tug of war are held at many places. People visit friends, family and foes to throw colors at each other. Some also drink Bhang, an intoxicating drink made from cannabis. In the evening after cleaning up people gather and share there story of that day.
