It's That Special Time of Year Again!! Peppers!!

Peppers Take the Next Step

Have you ever stared down a tray of pepper seedlings that have grown to large for their current pots and wondered... Now what am I supposed to do with these? If your answer is Yes, you are in luck because I am going to show you!

Last weekend we spent 10 hrs (not givin' er super hard but enjoying it) transplanting the peppers to their "next size up" pots. This the the 3rd size pot put them in, leaving one remaining size upgrade before they will hit the fertile soil outside!!

Here is the visual recollection of the odyssey(compressed a bit):

We have huge root mass so far in all the plants

We re-use all the pots that we get from any small flowers we buy through out the year. This Purple Beauty has found a temporary home in an old Walmart herb pot LOL.

One by one they are carefully transplanted into their new expanded living spaces.

And before you know it you have them all transplanted and back in their places under the grow lights.

Before they get any taller and lankier (technical term for leggy LOL) we will need to top the peppers. This means just cutting off the top "Y" sprout / bud in the canopy to promote a bushier growth of the plant. We will let them settle into their new pots and do this tomorrow. The tomatoes in the back ground of the last picture are about ready to take their next step into bigger pots also... Tomorrow should be another busy day with transplanting.

We also started a new tray of only flowers in the incubator. After planting a whole garden of bee and butterfly friendly flowers we noticed we had a huge increase in our pollination rates. The mason bees loved the sweet peas, nasturiums, marigolds, and lupines we grew last year. We started to see more and more butterflies, and even saw about 20 Monarchs through the summer. We notice that they were always around 1 of the 3 Butterfly weeds that we had planted. A short poke around on Google and it was laid out repeatedly to us. The Butterfly weed (also called Milkweed) is a favorite of the Monarch Butterfly. It is a Zone 3 plant, which works great in my Zone 3 yard, so we decided to get the seeds and are growing 12 more LOL.

They are the tiny guys in the fore front of the tray on the right in that picture. They are tiny now but should top out between 30-36" by August.

Anyways that wraps up this update of the seedling plants and the new seeds started.

As always if you like this post upvote, re-steem, and follow as you see fit!!!
