Lime essential oil is not one of the more popular oils out there but it's a HUGE guilty pleasure for me! The smell is just divine and instantly takes me to my happy place!

Lime essential oil, however, can be used for way more things that just a mood booster!

Lime juice has been proven to be antibacterial, anticancer, antidiabetic, antifungal, anti-hypertensive, anti-inflammation, anti-lipidemia, and antioxidant properties. Source.

1. Mood booster

While I haven't been able to find any studies relating specifically to limes, most people will tell you that citrus essential oils in a diffuser just seem to lift their mood and give them energy - including myself.

2. Eating

Lime essential oils are edible and can be added to lemonades, mojitos, smoothies, margaritas, guacamole, etc.

3. Bug Repellent

Add lime essential oils to your homemade bug repellent or lotions to keep the bugs away. A 2016 study showed that lime essential oil was effective in repelling two major types of mosquitoes (both of which we have here in Virginia). Source.

4. Dewormer

Another study showed lime essential oils were an effective birth control in a type of blood fluke (worm). While I haven't found a study relating to any other worms, I don't mind adding some to my chicken waterer and outdoor dog bowls to try to protect my menagerie.

5. Medcinially

This is where lime essential oils really shine. In several studies, it was shown to be effective in killing e. coli, slmonella, listeria, s. aureus, p. aeruginosa, a. baumannii, mutans streptococci and lactobacilli. Use it in a diffuser to inhale this powerful medicine, but also in your household cleaners for an antibacterial kick! Source. Source. and Source.

CAUTION: lime essential oil can cause photo-sensitivity in some. Always dilute it in a carrier oil and test a small patch of your skin before liberal use. If you are pregnant or breastfeeding, consult a health care practitioner before using. Keep out of reach of children and do not apply to sensitive areas such as inner ears. When ingesting edible oils, always consult a qualified practitioner and ensure the oil is food grade quality.

I wonder of you could put it in a healing balm for the antibacterial properties??

I definitely would! It's antibacterial, antimicrobial, and anti-inflammatory! The only thing I would note (and I'll add it to the post) is that it can cause a photo-sensitivity in some people, however diluted in a carrier oil, or a few drops add to a bigger solution should be fine!

Definitely! The citrus oils are among the very limited allowed to pregnant and breastfeeding moms (I know I created a preggie balm for myself) and the lime is delicious in a balm. Very zesty while having amazing healing properties
