A still morning and surveying changes

in #homesteading6 years ago

The photos were taken in June this year on a misty morning just like today's, which is mostly cleared.

I like the atmospheric ghostly trees and the post connected by that cable to the old barn.

The puppy was actually a bit startled by the noise coming from near the crow's nest just inside a little triangular shaped window high up on the barn wall. It's not visible in the photo, but it's been used by nesting owls in the past too.

At the time I also wondered whether the puppy had just noticed the missing bit of the roof - we need to see to that.

I took quite a few photos on the day but that one was my favourite although it does seem to have some help from google...

You can't see the crows in the photo above taken today; they'd been flying and the puppy once again tried to chase.

You wouldn't probably have noticed but in June I hadn't yet dealt with the patch of stinging nettle to the right. If you look at the photo today it shows that it needs doing again before winter to tidy that section up.

Ah stone homes and fog go together so well, something mystical about it.

Add to that moss and lichen, @solominer ! we've got lots of those ingredients ... perfect for a few celtic folk stories :D

@cryptocariad

very true, and they do tend to grow all over stonework.

wow photography nature are very beautiful and interesting I really like your posts @cryptocariad you are very different from the others you are the best I will share your posts @cryptocariad

Thank you for your kind words and the resteem, @reza02 :D

yes, my friend

Very atmospheric @cryptocariad.

I'm curious. Why do you need to deal with the nettles? They don't look anywhere near as bad as they were in June. Won't the winter just kill them off?

I agree but then we'd be left with lots of stalks, @gillianpearce. I think it would be neater and more accessible for us and the dog :D

i love the brick houses. Only when I travel to Europe then we get to see such houses...

Thanks, @ireenchew. These stone houses are very old and the walls of the buildings are extremely thick. You'd think that would make them well insulated, alas, they are not. :D

I can only imagine the amount of work needed to maintain them

Lovely construction. You don't see many stone buildings like this one in Australia.

It's a very old place, @gmatthe2 - there's date above the front door that reads 1799 (!)

Love the photo with the pup in the mist and the lovely old stone building. We saw two owls on our morning walk today. Silhouetted on peak of a roof and another on a chimney. I like the series of photos with the pup showing him listening to different sounds in the mysterious mist :)

Thanks, @steven-patrick - the puppy's very wary / scary really ! We do see and hear owls too; I also find their pellets :D

I like how your photos look together, side by side with the fog moving. They do look quite ghostly, don't they? Oh and your pup is sooo cute from behind! And your stone house is cool. I am really liking your home (it is your home, right?) :)

oh, yes, thank you, @marblely... The stone house is cool and cold all in one :D

Very warm and family photo! The fog created a watercolor effect, it's very nice to the eye. Very watchful dog!
