Building our Adobe Oven is one of the Greatest Gifts we have ever Given us!
Building our Adobe Oven is one of the Greatest Gifts we have ever Given us! We use it quit often for our baking and slow cooking. It uses very little wood to heat it up about 1 12 x 12 log and some sticks. After it is warm it will cook all day and all night. The adobe oven is worth your time to build one.
The first step is a good base. I built one out of rocks and cob (adobe). Very important to make is solid.
I used bricks and cob to make the doorway and cooking area. The plywood helps it to stay in shape while you build up till it dries.
Mix your cob with sifted clay, straw and water. Insert feet walk until smooth.
Make into little balls for easy use.
Build a sand castle for the size you want inside your oven.
Fill in low spots!
Cover in wet newspaper
Cover with at least 4 inches thick of cob
Let dry. Then dig out sand
Only dig to the paper
Let cure then start enjoying. I'm also going to share how we use it in our everyday life in one of our next Steemits! So please follow us here We love Y'all!
had I not seen a post on fb I might never have known more youtubers migrated to steemit :) thank for sharing and keep up the good work :)
I'm very glad I started mine here just trying to understand how it works lol Thanks for coming over my friend
I very recently resteemed a post that has a few links that should help you better understand how the site / platform works hope you understand all this better then I do :)
This is really awesome! I never knew how these are made. What is the cooking surface? Where do you put the wood to burn?
I can't wait to make one! Thanks for sharing!
I just used bricks as cooking surface and I burn the wood right there also I just sweep it out after burning. Once you build one you will love it!
In many parts of Africa, Adobe Ovens are used for baking bricks which in turn are used to build a home.
I have thought about that but I would like to build a BBQ pit out of the bricks
We are so excited to build our own soon! hoping to start in the winter. Thanks for sharing!!
