Booksales, Firewood & Stuff – September 14, 2019 @goldenoakfarm

Saturday morning, after cleaning up the kitchen and unloading the dehydrator (one packed ½ gallon of dried Walla onions) we headed out for the annual booksale at the local vocational school.

@riverflows, I’m not sure if this is a true treasure find, but my husband found a motherload of Stuart Woods books. That will keep him going for a good long time.

I found these that will keep me going for a long time. I also got a bunch of Robert Parker’s that we didn’t have. In total 23 books.

The logging company had called on Friday and said they’d be delivering a load early Saturday morning. We expected to see they’d been and gone when we got back from the sale, but nope.

He did a real good job of getting to the wood area without wrecking much new grass. It’s fascinating watching the guys operate this machinery so dexterously.

This wood is for next year, and the following 2, 3 or 4 years. Now we will have the masonry heater, we expect to go through a lot less wood.

Those slacker old layers have been sending up 5 eggs for 14 birds for a while now, like since the day after Freezer Camp. The little girls have 3 laying at this time. The egg eating seems to have stopped now we started feeding them fish in the mornings. The 3 little brown ones on top are from the little girls.

Most mornings I head out to the barn around 5AM to stain another window section. There’s very little room in the cold room, so I can only do 1 piece at a time. Awning windows have 2 pieces, double hung have 3. It will be fun (NOT) when it is time to do the doors…

Sunday morning, after I’d stained my section we moved the pasture pen. It only has to move once every 2 weeks with just 18 birds in it.

Onion dehydrating makes an awful mess of the trays and I have 18 trays and 18 liners to clean up today. Supposed to do it yesterday, but I read my new book The Timekeeper instead.

My husband is spending Sunday building the huge carrying beam that runs under the kitchen/dining room. That should keep him busy until we leave to go to a jazz concert Sunday afternoon.

Jerry Noble & Bob Sparkman Duo

We first saw these 2 at a musical program series offered on Wednesday noontimes about 20 years ago. They were such a joy to watch, so very obviously enjoying playing together. I never much cared for jazz but watching them made it fun to listen to.

So that’s our weekend.
