We got this tower garden years ago.

Planted strawberries and herbs. Did good but not like what I expected it to flourish. I might have done something wrong.

Years later, after finding out our starts were acting funny, figured out that our clayey soil is hampering the root's progress. Suffocating is more an apt term.

So this time around, when we filled the tower with dirt, we used organic potting mix.

Flower Power

The bottom most layer got bush beans seeds.
The top most layer got spinach and radish.
Flowers every other layer - marigold, Siberian wallflower, Chinese houses, aster, calendula
Other spots got herbs - marjoram, chives, parsley

Parsley

The seed packet says that parsley has really slow germination process. That it might take a month?

Hmm, I'd like to try growing one from seed. But should I get one that's already ready to transplant?

Have you tried growing parsley from seeds?

Experimental

Well, I threw in some broccoli starts there too. And cucumber seeds on another slot.

It will be great to have them surrounded with flowers. I was going to plant nasturtium but decided against it. Not sure I want it too close to my broccoli when aphids get on it.

Nasturtiums are sacrificial plants. When aphids get on it, uproot them.

Before, I made a mistake of trying to save the nasturtiums from aphids. Shucks, wasted neem spray and insecticidal soap on them. When I could have uprooted them and washed the aphids away, ate the flowers on a salad.

Busy as heck

Much going on, less and less time with posting/commenting. Shorter and to the point posts.
