The Campout Has Begun! First Pictures! LOTS OF STEEMIANS!

in #homesteading7 years ago (edited)

Every year we host a campout for the fall feasts at our homestead. Usually we keep the number at around 100 people. The campout has begun and people are having a great time despite a bit of rain at the beginning. We are anticipating a bit more rain in the days to come but nothing serious.

This experience gives campers a taste of off grid living. They have to fetch water, learn about Humanure and use an outhouse, take outside showers, and just get a bit out of their comfort zone for a bit. We also give classes on butchering, solar and other off grid topics like water catchment.

So far, everyone is having a great time! Here are the first set of pictures. More will follow later. OH and lots of these folks are steemians!

PICTURES

Here is a shot of some of the campsites on our main pasture. We have a total about 19 families camping out right now.

Some of our campers gathering water for their campsites from our rain catchment system. We have a total capacity in this particular system of over 1300 gallons. Also pictured is the outhouse and showerhouse to the left.

Another shot of some of the campsites. Some people choose to decorate their campsites and tents. We will have another posts of some of the more decorative camps coming up.

Pictured on the right is the main tent where we gather at night and play games or have trivia contests.

Of course the kids get to play and explore. They build forts and run and play games. There are always lots of children every year.

Here are a number of children doing arts and crafts. Each child was to find a rock and then paint some sort of design on their rock. We think they did a great job!

And of course we have a good amount of teenagers here as well. Everyone is having a great time!

This is the first series of pictures we will be sharing. I haven't been posting on Steemit lately because we are busy entertaining our guest and helping the campers with orientation. Lots more pictures coming! I will do a post with all of the steemians who are here camping. STAY TUNED! Steemit Logo

Awesome to see more of everyone!

Looks like everyone's having a good time! I like the green Sukkot shirts this year. @ironshield

Thant looks like so much fun! What a wonderful thing for the kids to look forward to every year while growing up, awesome memories. Thanks for sharing your family tradition.

This is just so cool. Wish I could come...looking forward to much more on this campout...

Thanks, more pictures coming!

We need thousands of these all across America!

There already are.

I'm a farmer/homesteader and I don't know of any in my area.

Might be something to set up for next season!

I know of a group celebrating the Feast of Tabernacles in Chandler, Ok right now.

Are you Hebrew?

No, but it's good when people gather to celebrate and get social interaction.

I think if you hop on this post - you will find your homesteading friends. There might be some on this list near you. They have over 200 and going for 250 homesteaders - quite the turnout for steemit!

Thanks for opening up your land for all of us plus keeping a full yet relaxing and fun schedule of events! Take care my friend!

Looks like a great time! I hope to be able to host stuff like this at my place sometime in the future.

What a great spot. I have some camping memories and this looks amazing.

I love the kids doing rock painting. That is big in my old town. The people hide them all around for others to find :)

What a fantastic, brilliant idea. Total respect for doing this.

Getting people out into the open air, playing, socializing. This.

Just....this!

This was a great post. Thank you for sharing. I'll be sure to keep an eye out for you future work!
