POPCORN UPDATE VLOG!

ALBINO CORN?

This was the first time that I'd ever seen this. Three of our seedlings are white! Yup, they are not the normal green that most corn sprouts are, but instead they are completely white.

Have any of you ever seen this? I hope it doesn't mean anything bad, but it sure is interesting to see.

Monster Truck was obviously happy with the results of his efforts so far, and he can't wait to watch it grow and mature. Homegrown popcorn is a delicious delicacy that we sure do enjoy these days!

We've got some already started, but now we need to plant more. We are hoping to be able to grow enough for a year's supply of popcorn, plus seeds to plant next year, plus some to sell, barter, or give away. They are such a beautiful crop anyway, and so useful! Have you ever grown your own popcorn before? If not, we'd recommend it!

As always, I'm @papa-pepper and here's the proof:

Wow, @papa-pepper, you have something unusual growing in your garden. This doesn't happen a lot but it can happen in seeds that we save from our own harvests (Not GMO). It can be caused by defects in the chlorophyll synthesis to how the chloroplasts divide during growth. It is awesome to see them grow and they may grow long enough to provide some educational opportunities for the kids but in most cases, they will die before maturity.

So when you see white plants growing in a batch you plant from seeds that should all come from the same inbred line, (meaning you didn't purposely crossbreed) it is a pretty good indication these seeds are carrying a genetic mutation in its recent history.

So in a nutshell, it is not harmful to you, but it is fatal for the white corn plants.

Great info. Thanks a lot - like a full power upvote thanks a lot!

Thank you, @papa-pepper! I was kind of stumped years ago when I had some appear in my garden so I went to the local agricultural school and asked why when I planted something green it was coming up white.

Homegrown popcorn, that actually pops is something that 99.92% of the population will never have done in their lifetime.

Maybe the percentage is even higher than that ?!

Cool! Now I'm in that elusive 1%!!!

I watched the video.
Good to know that there are so many varieties of corns.
Hats down to you and your team.
Keep on steemin'

Great agriculture. We need folks like you in the world.

It is really cool seeing your charming kids getting involved in the process. With the competent hands you have got, you sure would have a large supply of popcorn harvest. Keep it going!

Yeah, them @little-peppers are always around helping with something. Thanks!

Friend I admire your work I like it, beautiful children you are giving a good example I applaud you bravo👏

Great work and also involving is also important as this would go in long way in instilling them hard work and diligence.Popcorn i hope you have a bountiful harvest and as for the albino corn it could be as a result of maybe different specie of seed or the nutrient composition of the land it is planted.Anyway say a big high albino popcorn when next you visit your farm..

Yeah!!..Our corns our growing very fast and very beautiful ..hope I'll get to taste it someday @papa-pepper
