RE: How to Manage Farm Volunteers

in #homesteading7 years ago (edited)

Indeed! I can relate. The need for help beyond our own hands is great. Yet having volunteers can be tricky!! Lucky to find the right ones for the right job, that is for sure! We were blessed with interns a few years ago, but I found that I needed to spend so much time educating them on how to work and how to do the things that I needed help with that I was actually getting less done on the farm than I would if they had not come.

But of course education is also valuable and it is good to teach, but a small business also needs to be efficient and survive!

Efficiency is the name of our game right now! We have spent 7 years experimenting and learning and now we know what works, more or less. Its time ti dial things in and get them running smoothly. Volunteers are great to share knowledge and keep the energy high, but they are not a replacement for good farm management and organized production systems. Thanks for the comment!

Absolutely! Congrats! We are on year 7 as well!
