-Look! There’s something behind those trees! Torkey ran closer.

-Careful! Sink and Rabe followed him through the bushes.

It was a metal door, in the middle of nowhere, deep into the northern jungles. Round and solid, ancient as the mountains. It had three strange symbols on it. The one with the scull was easy enough to understand, and the hand probably prohibited entrance. The third one, on the other hand, was more abstract. It was circle shaped, yellow and black, with three forms pointing in towards a dot in the centre.

-It's probably some religious symbol, Rabe said. -Most likely a warning of some kind of curse or something. No reason to worry.

They got the door open, and started walking down the tunnel. There was a stench coming up from the deep. At smell of humidity, of muss and rot, but there was something else. Some kind of industrial, chemical smell. Different, unknown. Sink stopped.

-I don’t like this smell. She was holding her napkin in front of her mouth. -It doesn’t smell healthy.

-We can't go back now, Rabe answered and kept walking.

Hundreds of feet down they came to a great hall with a circle shaped mark in the centre of the floor. There was no exit.

-I'll be damned... Rabe touched the walls, examining them. -This is it?

Torkey was looking at the floor. -These marks... They look like there has been a hole here, sealed up completely. I think we're going to need to blow it up.

-Are you sure this is a good idea? Sink was standing by the entrance. She glanced up the tunnel they had come in from.

-Women! Rabe said -Of course it's a good idea. With all those warnings, we're probably onto something huge.

-I think I'll walk up again. -I need some air.

The two men took cover further up the tunnel. The explosion almost blew them off their feet.

They ran down to see if something had happened. The stench was even worse now, and it seemed to be coming from the big hole in the floor. Slowly they walked closer to the edge. A deep, seemingly bottomless well went down into nothing.

Rabe threw a stone in. They never heard it reach the ground.

-Hmm, Rabe said. -This is complicated, and impossible with the equipment we have brought. Bummer. This is as far as this mission gets.

Torkey was staring down into the hole. -That strange glow… What is it?

It was green, like emeralds, with a hint of shining blue.

-Maybe there's a huge pile noble stones down there. Damned, so close...

A sound. Rabe looked at Torkey.

-What the hell?

It sounded again. A scream. Many screams, at once. They stared into the deep. The glow seemed to be getting stronger. Closer. Torkey took a step back.

-I don’t like this, man… Let’s get out of here!

-Wait! I want to see what it is!

Rabe stared down on the light. The horrible screams echoed between the walls. Evil screams of pain. He could see them. Glowing, fire spitting reptiles of death. Hairless winged rats, snakes with claws. Others had no form at all, just lumps of meat crawling up the walls. Rabe turned to run.

It was too late.

Sink was walking back and forth in front of the tunnel door with a worried frown on her face. She looked up. A sound came from the tunnel. She saw a light. The torches. They were coming back. The light got stronger. Greener. She jumped aside. Monsters came pouring out of the tunnel. Up in the sky. swarming into the jungle. Mutants spawned in a radioactive hell, waiting for thousands of generations to be set free. They devoured everything and everyone in their way. The era of the mutant monsters had begun.
