Horses sleep standing up

Horses will often sleep standing up to make sure they don’t waste any time sleeping. They also spend a fair amount of time with their eyes closed as well. This means they have one eye open while they are sleeping which gives them 360-degree vision around them so that no animal can sneak up on them when they are asleep.

There are over 300 breeds of horse

Horses come in all shapes and sizes, with a variety of colors and markings. Breeds include everything from Arabians to Quarter Horses to Friesians, which originated in Germany. The first horses were domesticated over 4,000 years ago. Originally from Asia, they are native to Eurasia and Africa—where they are still wild today. When a horse is born it will learn how to run within minutes of its birth. This helps it catch prey once it’s old enough for hunting.

Horses can be trained to detect breast cancer

Horses can actually detect cancer using their keen sense of smell, according to research by scientists at Southampton University. In a trial in 2011, 36% of women with breast cancer had a horse-handler who was able to detect their disease, compared with just 8% of healthy women.

Every horse has unique fingerprints on their tongues

Each horse has a unique pattern on their tongue which they use to identify each other when they are in a herd. These patterns are even found in foals when they are born. Every horse loves apples: Horses love apples!
