Extension of a house

Utrecht-based architecture studio Richèl Lubbers Architecten has added an angular extension to a residence on the site of a former monastery.

Located in a green area of ​​the city, the owners wanted to create an extension to their home that could be used as a welcome space for friends with the possibility of turning it into a fully autonomous annex in the future. The solution included refurbishing the existing property and adding a wooden lodge with a mezzanine level and a sloped roof. The project started in the spring of 2016 and was completed in the fall. The access is through a glazed corridor, the extension includes a living room overlooking the garden, a bathroom and a sauna on the ground floor and a bedroom on the mezzanine. The interior consists of plywood walls and polished concrete floors. The exterior is coated with a specially treated durable wood called Platowood.
