Do you remember Sting, the short sword of Bilbo Baggins, which glowed blue in the presence of orcs? Okay, was there any kind of inscription on it? According to Tolkien, no. According to Peter Jackson, yes! In the Lord of the Rings movies the blade is engraved with the Sindarin phrase:

Maegnas aen estar nin - dagnir in yngyl im
Sting is my name - I am the spiders bane.

It is supposed that the Elves had it engraved for Bilbo after he had come to Rivendell to write there his memoirs and spend his final years in peace. A nice touch from movie-makers, I think.

So, I decided that I can use this inscription on my Finnish outdoor knife, which looked quite boring. And the name Sting seemed like a good one for a carving tool (putting aside the part with spiders). All I used was an old children's pyrographer:

And 10 minutes later my LOTR styled blade was finished!
