How to transfer STEEM from Bittrex to Steemit

The reason I am creating this post is because I've tried to look extensively for a step-by-step guide with pictures of each step, but I have failed to find one. This guide assumes you have a bittrex account.

How to transfer funds

Step 1:
Purchase STEEM on bittrex at market price.

Step 2:
Go to your Bittrex wallet and type STEEM into the search bar. Once you see your STEEM, click on the minus symbol, which represents withdrawing funds out of your Bittrex account.

After clicking on your wallet, this screen should pop up, this is the important part where you put your steemit information in.

Step 3:
Go to steemit.com and click on your profile picture. From the dropdown menu, click on "wallet"

From there, click on permissions. Here it will display several "keys." Copy your Memo Key to your clipboard. In my personal account, my memo key starts with the three letters "STM"

IMPORTANT: MAKE SURE IT SAYS "SHOW PRIVATE KEY" TO THE RIGHT. YOU WANT TO MAKE SURE YOU ARE SENDING TO THE PROPER ADDRESS
Step 4:
Go back to bittrex and enter your MEMO Key into the Memo line, enter your username into the Registered Account Field. I highly suggest doing a test withdraw of a small amount of STEEM to make sure you have copied your information correctly. Click withdraw, enter your 2-factor authentication, and then wait! withdrawfromBittrex.png
Step 5:
You've now waited a few seconds... Congratulations your STEEM should now be in your account :) (at least for me the withdraw was almost immediate). I got a pop-up at the bottom right of my screen that alerted me that I now had a deposit into my account. Congratulations again on making your first deposit, and welcome to the steemit community!

Sort:

There is no need to enter anything into the memo field displayed on Bittrex or any other exchange. All you need is the address that you want to send funds to, which on the Steem blockchain is your account name.

Please note that any information written in the memo field will become public information that anyone can see on the blockchain. So do not enter your private key or password there.

I absolutely agree. I read this article, I was hesitant about using my private memo key, but I was in a hurry and didn't check other information. I got some weird thought that bittrex is about to send some encrypted memo and that's why it needs prev key (that's total nonsense).

And the result is:

Thanks to @noblebot for its automated checks and for notifying me. Fortunatelly, I don't have any secret memos that others could now read, but still, this article in its current state NEEDS CORRECTION or DELETION or at least enough downvotes so it's ghosted.

@cryptotrends if you're online, please correct it.

"Memo" field is just an opaque text that will be sent back along with the transfer.
Nothing more.

Thanks for taking the time to do this properly. The effort is much appreciated.

Thank you for sharing @cryptotrendz!

While I have yet to explore cryptocurrencies (probably because I've always held a dim view of traditional stock markets), I certainly see the value of bringing this enabling information together for those who actively wish to!

I find it interesting that this is one of your earliest posts. You start heavy! :cP

As an aside, you may find this article to be of interest since you seem quite new here. Welcome!

Haha, to be honest the reason I was brought to steemit is because I've been an active daytrader of cryptocurrencies for 4+ years :) I was doing some due diligence on some tokens when I noticed STEEM... I believe my other avenues of generating an income are sufficient without steemit, but I thought it would be really interesting to start a blog about my life in general, as I haven't been really keen to share so much on my Facebook or other types of social media.
Anyways, thanks for the link to your post about being a newbie here, I'm giving it a read as we speak!

I can certainly understand what you mean. Steemit has a different feel (and base motive) to it than other social media. :c)

Well I am definitely looking forward to your shared teachings and experiences over time. It is a little difficult to not be curious about cryptocurrencies here.

Oh - and you're welcome. I'm learning myself as the days go by. :c)

great post. always a little unsure about how to transfer back and forth between accounts. this was exactly the info I needed. probably just easier to buy steem directly on steemit using bitcoin from another wallet. thanks for your post

Does anyone know how to transfer out of poloniex? in this case I want to transfer from Poloniex to Bittrex. What do I put in the address and memo lines? Trying to send a small test amount but I can't even figure out what to put! when I click deposit on bittrex it just give me memo: 19 characters of letters and text, and Registered ACCT: bittrex. What should I put in each?ploniex transfer problem.png

You have to sell your steem to btc or eth and then transfer the btc/eth to bittrex and rebuy the steem there. Once on bittrex, you can repurchase the steem. Polo has no fucking clue what they are doing and apparently all the wallets are jacked up. Avoid that exchange like the plague.

Thank you so much for this guide. I was also searching for a guide on how to transfer from Bittrex and luckily you had made one. Much appreciated 🙏🏻

Absolutely brilliant tut! Thanks for taking the time and trouble to create this.

Great instructions and very well organized. I hope steemit makes this process a little more intuitive in the future for those who already own steem and just need to deposit from wallet or exchange.
