What is expected of an IT Engineer?

The first thing is to ask, what is it to be an engineer? No matter what type of engineer, an engineer is a creator with the knowledge of technologies that allow to create in an optimal way.

Many times you do a job interview, and one of the questions is:

Are you subscribed to any technology magazine in your field?
Maybe you think it's a silly question. Well, it's not stupid. All engineering is creating day by day, and it is very important to be aware of the novelties not to be left behind. This question is very interesting, as you can see if you are proactive in your work. Being proactive is fundamental in the world of Computer Engineering.

Another lot of times they ask you to do a program or some exercises in some time frame. This is not expected to be done as fast as you can. It is expected that you do them in a correct way, structuring the code, knowing what you are doing. That the code is readable is something very important in IT.

A computer engineer who has to search on Google. The field of computer science is infinite in scope and it is impossible to know everything. If you need to do a function that does x thing, possibly someone already, that has done it before. This does not mean that it does. You have to understand and try to improve it and adapt it to your code.

Copy and paste is not an option. If you have to do copy and paste, it is that something has done wrong. Make reusable code. If you have two equal snippets of code, it's a separate method, and it's invocable.

These are some of the most important features that have to have a good computer engineer.
