Tutorial: How to shorten and track your Steemit links? (English/German)
Hi guys, today I want to show you how you can track the clicks on your Steemit-Links and how to shorten them, so that they look better. There are many URL-shorteners outsite and I even found one made by Steemit, with some nice functions, like promoting your own business while sharing your Steemit-links!
Here is the link to the new Steemit-URL-shortener: http://steem.link
Just create a free account and shorten all your links, so that you can track the visitors, make them more friendly and that you have a collection of all your favourite links, to find them fast. (Like bookmarks) You can even personalize your links, as for example this link to my Steemit-blog: http://steem.link/my-blog
For sure there will be more functions and there are already more, but I want to to keep this first tutorial here simple.
This is a great opportunity to track your efforts by sharing links on social media platforms!
In the past I always used the free URL-shortener bitly.com for shorten my links and to track the visitors. I can suggest you this site too, if you want to use a tool without adverstising and if you don´t want that the people clicked on your links have to wait some seconds to be redirected to your main-link. But the steem.link tool supports Steemit, that´s why I will always use both URL-shorteners in the future.
Best regards and hear you in my next article!

Thank you very much @pjheinz!
This is really interesting! Thanks for sharing it.
I'm definitely going to pick through this site. I know a lot of people have been wanting any analytics they can get their hands on.
Yes, this is really nice to know how many people clicked on your links, so you know which FB-Groups are working for example etc... Thank you for your feedback @sykochica!
I actually made a URL shortener for Steemit a while back if you'd like to check it out as well: http://st33m.it/launch
Ok, I will check it out too.
Great tips, friend.
Thanks @darthnava!
Thank you @future24
It´s a pleasure for me to help other´s. Thanks for your feedback @strangerarray!
Didn't know there's a steem link shortener. definitely trying it out
Thanks and yes try it, it´s really nice!
Thank you. Textbooks with simple explanations clearly lacking here.
:) I'm not able to read everything (photos and text figures are not translated) but the main realized.
:D
Nice danke für den Tip!

Hi. Thank you! This is very helpful
Thank you for the feedback @opmac!
Thanks mate. Quick question. Would using a shortener stop facebook from recognising it as a steemit link? My reach when I post my steemit blogs on my Facebook wall is pathetic.
I tagged 6 friends in one of them and still none of them saw it in their feed.
Facebook is tricky it works on number of comments. If you or someone else comments on your post (reply doesn't count) more friends will see it. In general it works that first people to see your posts are those who you interacted with recently for example through private message or comments on their walls. If you get 3 comments in your post, 30% of your friends will see it, 5 comments = 50%, 10 comments = 100% of your friends will see it in their feed.
Hope this helps @mattclarke
Yes that´s right @dashfit, thanks for your additional information. And if a friend will like your post, more of your friends and friends of your friends will see the post @mattclarke.
All true, but the people I tag in a post should always see it, right?
yes, they should receive a notification about the tag. Unless they have disabled notifications I don't see a reason why would they not receive it.
Yes, they should see it in the globe at the top right corner.
Really? hmm... No it will not stop facebook from recognising the destination link. If you use bit.ly it is an open redirect and the thumbnail will be the same as when you use the original link. If you use steem.link, for facebook it is an steem.link-link and not a steemit-link. You should try this. 👌
Thanks future24. I'll give it a try. If I get more reach I'll let you know.
