How to measure your head for a wig
Have you ever had trouble finding the right size wig? You need to know some of the knowledge you need to know when buying human hair wigs, which will help you choose the right wigs. Measuring your head for a wig is a straightforward process that ensures you get the right size for a comfortable and secure fit. Here’s how to do it:
- Gather Your Tools: You will need a flexible measuring tape (cloth tape measure) to take accurate measurements.
- Wear a Wig Cap: To ensure accurate measurements, it's a good idea to wear a wig cap or a thin towel on your head. This simulates the thickness of a wig and helps you measure for the correct size.
- Measure Head Circumference:
- Place the tape measure just above your ears and across the forehead, at the point where a wig would typically sit.
- Keep the tape measure level and firm, but not too tight, as you circle your head.
- Note the measurement where the tape measure overlaps itself.
- Measure Front to Back:
- Start at the front hairline (where your hair begins to grow).
- Pull the tape measure straight back over the crown of your head to the nape of your neck where the hairline ends.
- Record this measurement.
- Measure Ear to Ear Across Forehead:
- Place the starting end of the tape measure at the edge of one eyebrow arch.
- Pull the tape measure across the top of your head to the edge of the opposite eyebrow arch.
- Record this measurement.
- Measure Ear to Ear Over Top of Head:
- Place the starting end of the tape measure at the top of one ear where it meets your head.
- Pull the tape measure over the top of your head to the top of the opposite ear.
- Record this measurement.
- Measure Nape of Neck:
- Measure the width of the nape of your neck by placing the tape measure at the base of your skull where the neck and head meet.
- Record this measurement.
- Write Down Your Measurements: Make sure to write down all the measurements you’ve taken so you can refer to them when shopping for a wig.
- Compare to Wig Size Chart: When you're ready to purchase gule wigs or guleless wigs, compare your measurements to the size chart provided by the manufacturer. This will help you determine the best size for your wig.
Keep in mind that wigs can be adjusted slightly for a better fit. Many human hair wigs come with adjustable straps at the nape of the neck or elastic in the cap that can be manipulated to some extent.
