Blockshipping: Shippers Are About To Smile
The Blockchain disruptive technology is spreading to every industry like a wildlife, the global container shipping industry is about to receive a major overhaul. An industry plagued with inefficiencies in the shipping process due to the age long conventional shipping processes which has led to considerable losses yearly.
Blockshipping aims to revolutionise the global container shipping industry with its Blockchain based platform, the Global Shared Container Platform (GSCP) designed to efficiently tackle problems of inefficiency, reduce processing time and digitise the entire container shipping industry. The GSCP platform can be likened to a cloud storage where the source of information on all the global inventory of containers will be stored with their real time locations, making it easy to know the status of a particular container and it’s current location and this information can be retrieved at any time. The GSCP platform will replace the outdated IT systems & processes which are prone to delays and errors with a robust Blockchain solution that is efficient, immutable, and importantly transparent.
It is estimated that the GSCP platform when employed will save the global container shipping industry at least USD 5.7bn annually. This will be possible by integrating a number of strategies like the Greybox concept which experts have proven that by pooling containers, carriers could save significantly on cost of storing empty containers or transporting these empty containers between ports, distribution centres, container depots and warehouses. The GSCP will contain a pool of containers with no names and colours which can be utilised by different carriers, forwarders and large shippers. 
The GSCP platform will also integrate Street turn/triangulation strategy which will enable containers to be returned to the shippers directly from the consignee instead of the usual practice of transporting containers to the terminal first before being returned to the shipper, this will significantly reduce the travel time of empty containers and inadvertently save cost in the process. The occasional loss of containers as a result of lack of real time tracking will be a thing of the past because the GSCP platform will contain a registry of all global containers with their real time location so every container can be tracked in real time.
The GSCP platform will serve as a primary platform for financial settlement for clearing and settlement of transactions between the different industry players using the Blockshipping internal Container Platform Token (CPT). Also Blockshipping is offering the CPT alongside the external revenue share token Container Crypto Coin (CCC). Holders of the CCC tokens will be entitled to a percentage of the revenue generated on the GSCP platform in the form of revenue sharing.
Blockshipping will utilize Blockchain technology to bring about the major process changes in the container shipping industry, employing smart contracts in the process to effectively automate the process.
