WHAT IS NET NEUTRALITY AND HOW DOES IT AFFECT THE INTERNET?

Net neutrality is the principle that governments should mandate internet service providers to treat all data on the internet the same, and not discriminate or charge differently by user, content, website, platform, application, type of attached equipment, or method of communication. For instance, under these principles, internet service providers are unable to intentionally block, slow down or charge money for specific websites and online content.The term was coined by Columbia University media law professor Tim Wu in 2003, as an extension of the longstanding concept of a common carrier, which was used to describe the role of telephone systems. A widely cited example of a violation of net neutrality principles was the Internet service provider Comcast's secret slowing ("throttling") of uploads from peer-to-peer file sharing (P2P) applications by using forged packets. Comcast did not stop blocking these protocols, like BitTorrent, until the Federal Communications Commission ordered them to stop.

So, what this means is that you can easily access any website without the owners intentionally restricting views on their site and slowing your access in a bid to charge you. This is a good thing in its entirety until recently when things began to change, when the same federal communications commission decided they'd want to kill net neutrality (The end of net neutrality is officially set to come this spring), this would ruin all the privileges we have enjoyed since it's introduction and take us back to the times when accessing the internet was a herculean task and costs alot to do so. To add to the menace, we are going to lose privacy we have enjoyed, the owners of the sites, would decide the speed to accessing their sites as well, who would want all this?
