The Hitchhiker’s Guide to Decentralization
What is the answer to life, the universe, and everything? Probably a number. Everything that exists in nature, be it the exact mechanics of a cheetah’s stride, the patterned design of a peacock’s feathers, or the trajectory of a stone being skipped across a pond, can be explained by mathematics. Outside of nature, humanity also answers to numbers. This can be an oppressive feeling for many people. Some are trapped by the numbers they see on their monthly credit card bill. Others work hard and save money, only to realize that the people they trust to handle their money have actually debased it over time.
What if control of these numbers were taken away from centralized forces such as banks and intermediaries? Imagine a system of numbers verified only by the energy needed to process them. Control of this system would not be limited to a single entity, but rather to those actively participating in contributing to the system, similar to a shared Google drive file with many, many, many contributors. Sounds like something cooked up by nature, doesn’t it? Through blockchain, human-created systems can reach the beauty of what we see in nature. When we say “blockchain ecosystem,” we aren’t only calling attention to our knowledge of tech jargon. Many blockchain ecosystems actively attempt to imitate the balance and harmony of natural ecosystems.
HighVibe.Network is one such system. Built on top of Ethereum, HighVibe is designed to be able to actively upgrade its architecture, with an eventual delegated proof of stake (DPoS) model. DPoS heavily encourages decentralization, as stakeholders are able to choose who they believe should be able to validate transactions. This is in contrast to a traditional proof of work (PoW) system, where a few wealthy individuals who buy their way into reaping a large proportion of mining rewards end up being the ones in control of the system. With DPoS, HighVibe is able to make sure that the most valuable users of the network, rather than the most affluent, get rewarded proportionally for their efforts. Such a system fits perfectly with HighVibe’s vision of a truly decentralized ecosystem of users, creators, and affiliates.
With HighVibe, users are incentivized for the effort they put into participating in personal development activities on the HighVibe network. In turn, content creators profit directly from user participation in their work, while also being rewarded based on the value of their work. Lastly, affiliates who promote platforms and content for authors are compensated immediately by the HighVibe network, giving them an almost instantaneous runway to promote more valuable content to users. The HighVibe ecosystem effectively creates a system of natural harmony between all parties involved, promoting autonomous growth for the network. At its core, HighVibe is defined by interactions between each member of the network.
We live in a relational reality. Our universe is not defined by the individual protons, neutrons, and electrons that make up matter, but the interrelatedness of these basic units. And behind each relationship is a number. Blockchain shows us how numbers can be a force for creating true balance in human systems and HighVibe will be at the forefront of such a movement. The answer to life, the universe, and everything may not be “42” like Douglas Adams suggested in The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy. It may, instead, look something more like this:
