HTTP VS HTTPs

Knowing the different between http:// and https:// will keep you secured when surfing the internet.
HTTP stands for Hyper Text Transfer Protocol while 'S' represents "secure". If you visit a website or web page, the web address in the web browser is likely to begin with either http:// or https://. When a web address begins with http://, this denotes that the website is communicating with your browser using an unsecured language and code. In other words, it is possible for someone to " eavesdrop" on your computer's conversation with the website and see the information you sent to the site in question or get your information hacked.

This is why you shouldn't enter your credit card number in an Http website! But if the web address begins with https://, that means your computer is communicating with the website in a secure code that no one can eavesdrop on.

When using a website for transaction, always confirm whether the web page address carries HTTPS before you enter your Credit/Debit card information.

If it doesn't, don't enter sensitive information such as a credit/debit card number because it is not secure, therefore you are open to fraud risk. Sometimes, the client may be exchanging private information with a server, which needs to be secured for preventing some hacking issue. For this reason, HTTPS was developed by a Netscape corporation to allow authorization and secure transactions.
