Can you survive in India by spending just 2 dollars a day?

Apparently yes you can and this is how you do it.

In general living in metropolitan cities may not allow you to spend so little and survive, yes there are people who do it but for sure it is difficult.

For example in most cities in South India for breakfast you can have two dosas and sambar which is a typical south India food that is served in hotels for Rs26 , which comes to 35 cents.

For water there are outlets near malls or Government offices where drinking water is supplied for free, all it takes is to store it in bottles.

For Lunch,

for 40 cents you can get 2 Poratas which will help you survive till the night,

At Dinner time

A meal with rice, vegetables and a fried papad will cost you half a dollar,

Hmm so looks like our expense comes to 0.35 + 0.40 + 0.50 = $1.25, so you still have 75 cents to enjoy.

With that you can buy some snacks to fill you in between meals, in case you get hungry,

So that would be,

13 cents for a biscuit/ cookie pack like this

26 cents for half a litre of water or spend 50 cents for a 1 litre of water,

So the total now comes to $1.25 + $0.50 + $0.13 = $1.88

So yes it is possible to survive, but any luxuries or a indulging in a beer is out of the question.
