SPPU ranked third among universities in India, between 600 and 800 globally
In a significant achievement, the Savitribai Phule Pune University (SPPU) has earned a place of distinction at the UK-based Times Higher Education World Rankings 2015-2016, where it has been placed third among Indian universities and between 600 and 800 among universities worldwide. In terms of teaching, it has been ranked 191 in the world, beating even the premier Indian Institutes of Technology and coming second only to Indian Institute of Science (IISc), Bengaluru.
Vice-Chancellor Wasudeo Gade welcomed the ranking and said it was a proud moment, especially for the teaching faculty. “Last year, the ranking was between 1,100 and 1,300. However, this is the first time that we participated in the survey as until now, our data was being collected through external sources. I think the jump in barely one year is commendable though we have our eyes set on a higher target now,” he said. Varsity officials added that this process was based on rigorous analysis of institutional data, 11.3 million research papers and more than 11,000 academic survey responses.
