Happiness -What is it?
Now when we know what happiness isn't, from the last post of mine.
We can find out what happiness is.
We are not going to look on happiness just from psychology.
We are going to look on happiness from different angles.
We are going to see what religions say about happiness.
What philosophers say about happiness.
So let's see what is happening
In psychology happiness is a mental or emotional state or well-being which can be defined by among others positive or pleasant emotions ranging from contentment to intense joy.
In positive psychology happiness is defined by life satisfaction.
In philosophy happiness can be understood as the moral goal of life as an aspect of chance.
Indeed in most European languages the term happiness is synonym for luck. Philosophers usually explicated on happiness as either a state of mind or a life that goes well for the person leading it
Plato asserts that those who are moral are the only ones who may be truly happy.
Aristotle and his "Eudaimonia" which is the goal of the human thought and action. Aristotle's work
"Eudaimonia"was used as a term for the highest human good
so it is the aim of practical philosophy including ethics and political philosophy to consider what
it really is and how it can be achieved.
So according to our Aristotle happiness is equal to the highest human good.
I hinduism in Advaita vidanta the ultimate goal of life is happiness in the sense that duality between Othman and Braham is transcended and one realized oneself to beat the self in all.
For Buddha the path of happiness starts from an understanding of the root closes off suffering.
Interesting fact is that Richard Gere is one big Buddhist. Buddha said that the greatest source of true happiness is to cherish others when we sincerely care for others well-being and happiness,
our hearts become warm open and consented to others and we ourselves feel a sense of genuine well-being.
Sonja Ljubomirski said
Happiness is the experience of joy contentment our positive well-being combined with a sense that one's
life is good meaningful and worthwhile.
Mahatma Gandi said
"Happiness is when what you think what you say and what you do are in harmony."
Dennis Whiteley said
"Happiness is a spiritual experience of living every minute and with love grace and gratitude."
Eleanor Roosevelt said
"Happiness is not a goal it is a buy product."
Now we can see that Happiness is different for different people, different religions, different beliefs, we can find happiness everywhere.
So let's see those beautiful places in coming in coming posts
