Lontong ~ The Favorite Dish in Indonesia

Lontong is a typical Indonesian dish and most people of Indonesia like this food. Lontong is made from rice wrapped in banana leaves and steamed for several hours. Well, we will enjoy this rice cake together with broth, tauco, balado eggs, fried tempeh, with a very distinctive Indonesian flavor. Usually lontong is served for one of the breakfast menus. I like lontong so much.

A few days ago when I stayed at the Hermes Palace Hotel in Banda Aceh, I enjoyed lontong as one of my breakfast dishes. Indeed, lontong is a mandatory menu for a number of star hotels in Indonesia. That’s really great to know that star hotel serves local traditional menus.

There is a corner where lontong at the restaurant. When I arrived at the restaurant, my first choice was vegan dish like salads and fruits. After taking some salads and fruits, I went to Lontong Corner. I can’t help enjoying the dish (lontong).

To make a plate of delcious lontong, we must take everything at Lontong Corner, mixing all of them in our plate. This is lontong with the broth. They are the main important things of lontong.

After taking some lontong and broth into my plate. Then, I take fried tempeh with balado. The tempeh were already given some chili.

Then I added on some green-chili tauco. It’s also the most important thing to have in a plate of Lontong.

And this one is egg. Egg is also important thing in making a delicious lontong dish. It’s a bit spicy. Boiled egg with “balado” is a source of protein in the dish.

Lontong is really Indonesia dish. I believe every Indonesian people has ever tried lontong, even once in their life. And lontong is also a part of tradition when celebrating Eid Fitri holiday for moslem people.
