Restricting Your Trade Options Only Hurts You

Now i just had somebody tell me that America does not need to trade with any other countries and if we did we should only do it when it benefits Amwrica.

That statement makes 0 sense because when somebody makes a trade they do it because they see a benefit, this means if Americans are buying cars from Japan well that means Americans are benefiting from the Japanese cars more then they would from American cars.

Tariffs are the biggest smack in the face to Americans, why? Well imagine if your neighbor is offering you a pound of fish for 5.99 and he is your only option well 5.99 is a good deal then.

Now imagine that you have two neighbors one has a pound for 5.99 the other has a pound for 4$ well you might check out the cheaper one and if it seems to the person that the deal is better and benefits them more then they will take it.

What tarrifs do is take that 4$ product and put a 49% tariff on fish from your other neighbor now both products are the same price, now anericans are getting robbed they are no longer FREE to choose the best product for them.

Now tariffs don't fully work like that and I better say this before I read about it in the comments, I understand tariffs are for other countries.

People say if you buy from Japan then your not helping Americans your helping the Japanese which is half true. I am helping myself (an american) by buying the cheaper product so now I have more money in my pocket to buy products from other Americans.

Let's look at steel we were buying steel from other countries because it was cheaper, but this hurt American steel manufacturing yet Americans were benefiting as a whole by getting cheaper steel which means any products made with steel are cheaper.

Now Trump put tariffs on steel and Americans are loosing jobs because of the steel being more expensive and now they can't stay in business. This is why restricting trade hurts the people who buy products, but trade restrictions help those that sell the demestic product.
