Survival 101 : Will to Live : Survival state of Mind

There is an Attitude which Survivors possess.. Your struggle to Maintain that attitude, can make or break you.

Psychological Defeat will Kill you long before your body succumbs to Starvation, or the Elements...

Your Desire to Survive CAN overcome Pain, Discomfort, and the Fear that Naturally accompanies you in a Survival Situation...

there are many things which will determine if you will Live or Die..

Water
Food
Shelter
Injury

but

the single most important factor in Wilderness Survival, is your Will to Live

  • Safety should always be your First Priority.. Injury and death are Real Possibilities..

  • Address any Injuries or immediate Safety concerns..

  • Take an inventory of all your possessions..
    (just like Robinson Crusoe..)

  • Survival is a very stressful experience; Understanding this, allows you to more accurately Consider your predicament...

  • ask yourself : Where are you located now... Where should your destination be..

  • When you have assessed your situation PLAN your survival strategy...

  • Planning, keeps you in control, of how you react to your situation...

  • Fear is Natural, and Healthy, it keeps you cautious, and can help prevent you from making Bad decisions..

  • Fear that turns to panic WILL Kill you...

  • Panic will cause you to make Bad decisions, which will quickly, and drastically, worsen your situation..

  • Control Panic immediately... or it will destroy your will to live...

  • You must keep going through the Pain, and Discomfort, even when things seem intolerable...

  • Understand that discomfort alone can not kill you..

  • Water is your Second Priority, right after Safety..
Dehydration will Weaken you physically, and mentally... and undermine your will to Survive..
Locate a water source; Drink often...
Find a way to tote water with you on your journey..

  • Shelter from the Elements can be simple... or elaborate depending on your length of stay..
Staying put in an area with water and a food source may be a viable option, until other conditions improve..

  • Staying dry helps prevent hypothermia..
Seek Shelter, or add insulation before Cold becomes an issue..

  • Rely first on your clothes to keep you warm; the Warmth of a Fire is always secondary to that..

  • Fatigue can lead to carelessness and irrational thinking.. Rest when appropriate..

  • Hunger will affect Morale. Rationing is recommended until a viable Food Source is acquired..

Stay Focused on your Survival.. Improving your situation will help prevent Boredom...

ADAPT

OVERCOME

IMPROVISE

Hope for the Best - Plan for the Worst..

This old saying, merits a real life application in Survival Situations..
