RE: If Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. were white, would the things he said cease to matter?

in #informationwar6 years ago

Absolutely! His statements would even have been misconstrued as being racist. When he said, "People should not be judged by the color of their skin, but by the content of their character," he would have been accused of denying the importance and richness of black pride and culture or something along those lines.

Sort:

Then we'd invariably end up at some point as though Cultural Appropriation or Oppression was involved. Culture is also something that can be changed, adopted, tossed aside, etc unlike race.

As far as I know skin color doesn't give anyone a patent on ideas, thinking, dressing, speaking, etc.

EDIT: In fact the only thing Skin Color does is give you differences in melanin. Those with more may be less susceptible to sunburns, but they also produce less Vitamin D from sun exposure. It also may indicate some genetic predispositions to consider with relation to medical factors. That's about it.

They would go to great legths to make his words and intentions seem as malicious as possible.

Well said, and even what you typed just there could be twisted up if one tried hard enough. 😕
