Insect - Wasps
Wasps
Wasps live in vast colonies which can consist of up to 10,000 workers at any one time. Most of the wasp activity centres around their vast paper nests which tend to be built in natural cavities, such as in trees. In a similar way to bumblebees and other sociable instincts, only the queen lays eggs which hatch into sterile female workers. The adult wasps tend to survive on a diet of sugary liquid which is secreted by the wasp larvae. They will also consume anything sweet that they happen to come across in the wild, such as wild fall fruit. Unusually, the larvae consume a very different diet. They are carnivores and subsist on a diet of carrion and insects.
