Even a Fowl Day Has Valuable Lessons
I have always felt a spiritual connection to birds, I am guessing it has something to do with my name 😉 Thanks for that one Dad!
I want to share with you a recent experience from one of the places we take Rodger and Stella quite often, it attracts a wide variety of birds because it is connected to a local fish hatchery and there are at least a dozen ponds there that welcome the birds.
Over the past couple of weeks, there has been a lot of Blue Herons showing up.
If you have never seen one of these birds in person, it truly is quite a shock!
Not only are they blue, they are extremely large and look exactly like something out of Jurassic Park!
On this day I was very fortunate to get some photos of one that was nearby as it took flight. When I got home and went through my images I was so pleased to see that I not only caught ‘Blue’ mid-flight, I also caught the ducks in the pond below. This image immediately made me think of how important it is to keep things in perspective.
“The only thing you sometimes have control over is perspective. You don't have control over your situation. But you have a choice about how you view it.” --Chris Pine
The ducks in my first image appear to be very large and significant, that is until you see them compared to the Blue Heron. Three ducks could easily fit on just one of Blue’s wings!
This was a pleasant reminder to me of just how far I’ve come and how much personal growth I have experienced. There was a time when I was unable or more realistically, unwilling to put things into perspective.
I wanted everything to be perfect and I worked obsessively hard to make things perfect. But this is a one-way street leading right towards disaster. Fortunately for me I got my wake up call, and decide to put things in perspective and also began to focus on where I am going, rather than where I have been.
Wayne Dyer said, “When you change the way you look at things, the things you look at change.”
This is true and wonderful advice! So I chose to create a new habit, one where I naturally keep things in perspective. Doing this not only makes life more enjoyable, it is one of the reasons why I now believe that Life is so easy.
If you are currently facing challenges, I hope that this has inspired you to 'Change the way you look at things' because if you do, you too may discover Valuable Lessons in a Fowl Day.
