INT Community Update! + Quests!

in #int5 years ago

What makes blogging entrepreneurial?

This has been a topic that has interested me since we first started the Intrepreneur project.

As I've stated before, I would like to think that pretty much any blog could be considered fit for #int, since by definition they are monetized in some way that would qualify.

However, this first what I would like to call "30 day experiment" with the community, has proven to be somewhat of a challenge.

The challenge we are faced with now is the reward farming by accounts who are providing very little to no value to this community, by which I mean there are a few persons who have decided to make regularly scheduled spam while using the #int tag. This is obviously not good for anyone, not even the person(s) doing it.

You see, while you might think that it's profitable to make a 5-10 word post, then self-upvote it 100%, 1-2-3x a day. It's really not, not for you or anyone else. Sure, you might collect a few cents in the short term with effortless articles clogging up the chain, but you are simultaneously making the value of the platform lessen. ie. dipping the value of the token you're farming.

Being involved in a community means being a team player. At least a little bit.

Our objective has started off as a pretty simple one, of course there's always room for growth and that's what is happening.

The un-official mission for #int is about to become a little more official, with the introduction of some community guidelines that will be expected to be adhered to if a user should choose to use our tag.

It's not as bad as it sounds! I know, we're all bummed out that we can't just tag everything #int anymore but there needs to be some structure around here and things are rapidly going to take effect within the next few days that you might not be used to.

For example, the Intrepreneur team, which is comprised of 16 people have all been staked with an extra 17,650 INT on top of their preexisting stake. These 16 people are listed below for your convenience.
@crystalhuman - INT Core Co-Creator
@munkiioh - INT Core Co-Creator
@yonnathang - Promoter
@anggreklestari - Indonesian Translator
@bahagia-arbi Indonesian Translator
@steamdan - Spanish Community Coordinator/Developer
@monajam - Moderator
@felipejoys - Administrator
@newenx - Promoter
@clayboyn - Administrator
@joseacabrerav - Promoter
@a1-shroom-spores - Promoter
@littlescribe - Administrator
@mobi72 - Moderator
@taintedblood - Promoter
@eugelys - Spanish Translator

You may, at any time, receive a written warning or flag from any of these accounts, or the accounts they have their stake delegated to. (delegation coming soon)

The reasons for warnings or flags will be for not following these specific guidelines.

Guidelines for using the #int tag.

  • Your post should not be a "tag farmer", eg. you do not use as many tags as you possibly can just to farm rewards. Instead, your post should be applicable to each and every tag that is used. That is what tags were meant for after all.

If you are using the spt tag and the steemleo tag there should be details about not only Splinterlands, but investing as well. Not every tribe has a general use tag, so you shouldn't be using them if your material isn't suited to their environment.

  • As stated by the Oxford Dictionary, an Entrepreneur is a person who is starting or running businesses, especially when this involves taking financial risks.

Many people are aware of my personal beliefs on this topic, I do think that if you have stake in the platform then that makes you a potential business owner/entrepreneurial blogger. However, there is a lot of concern within the community that people are taking this notion a bit too far.

  • What qualifies and what does not?

I'll (@crystalhuman) be the first to say that this has not been easy to figure out, and to be honest I don't think anyone has a perfectly clear idea of what an #int-worthy post is, exactly.

While there are a lot of great ideas coming from our team members, we would all like to hear back from the community at large, to see how you all feel about our decisions, and to join us to be a part of making them.

Since it wouldn't be a community without you, it's our first priority to find out what you think these guidelines should be.

We figured the best way to do this is to reward people for their help as well, so we've made a quest out of it!

Quest!

  • Leave a comment below with 2 links. 1 link to a post you think deserves to use the #int tag, And 1 link to a post that you think should not be using the tag.
  • Describe in 20 words or more why you think these 2 posts should or shouldn't be on #intrepreneur.
Reward: 5 INT!

Superquest!

  • Describe in 100 words or more why you think these 2 posts should or shouldn't be on #intrepreneur.
Reward: 25 INT!

Thanks for being a part of our community!

What is Entrepreneur?
What is the definition of entrepreneurs?
It to be somewhat of a challenge.

Take my article as an example.
Https://www.intrepreneur.life/palnet/@cloudblade/drinking-honey-water
Some people think that he does not meet int,
But I think he is in line with int.

I am commenting about it !
Or, I need to change the angle, I need to change a few words...
Say that I am selling it .

whether or not...
I can only say my own things, not others.

For example, I like paper-cut art.
I post the paper-cuts I made myself. I published him is right.
if my article is to comment on someone else's paper-cut, it is not right.

Remarks:
My the reply is not participating the Quests.
I am want have more understanding.

Intrepreneur was envisioned to be a place where persons could blog about their professional lives, while keeping their audience up to date on the progress of -
(1) their personal businesses
(2) any projects that they may be working on & want feedback or assistance with
(3) getting crowdfunding for projects
(4) running ads for their businesses, such as promotions & giveaways
(5) providing educational materiel on learning a new skill or trade

These are just some examples of what we as team members consider to be entrepreneurial practices. While this list is limited, it covers a specific niche & is based on our seeking to strengthen a particular skill-set among ourselves as bloggers, namely 'how to run a successful brand/service/or self promotion business' online.

If you wish to do general blogging, perhaps the INT tag is not for you, however posts about your skill with paper-cut art, showing the process of how you create a piece from start to finish, would be considered "(5) providing educational materiel on learning a new skill or trade", and thus would be entrepreneurial. It's simply a matter of how the information is brought forward & presented.

I hope this helps to clarify a few things, and I sincerely thank you for your feedback & honesty! :D

So the critics are excluded?
Such as food critic, sports critic, event critic / etc.....all not Intrepreneur.

Then, what about the writer?
I have created a poem song , there are people said that it is not Intrepreneur. yes or no say writer is not the Intrepreneur?

Any trade, including writing and any other form of art (poetry, painting etc,) can all be done on an entrepreneurial level. It requires a little bit effort than your standard "post a pic" like one would on instagram, but even on instagram entrepreneurs who use that platform, take their time to create well written & thoughtfully guided content for their followers, because they understand that 'their profile is their business.'

We are doing our best to not exclude anyone from posting on Intrepreneur, whilst still ensuring that our platform reflects it's original mission, which is again, "to support entrepreneurial bloggers online."

The definition above is a simplified version of what it means to be an entrepreneur and should one go looking for an expanded explanation, they would find that an entrepreneur is also described as -

  • "An individual who creates a new business, bearing most of the risks and enjoying most of the rewards. The entrepreneur is commonly seen as an innovator, a source of new ideas, goods, services, and business/or procedures.
    Entrepreneurs play a key role in any economy. These are the people who have the skills and initiative necessary to anticipate current and future needs and bring good new ideas to market. Entrepreneurs who prove to be successful in taking on the risks of a startup are rewarded with profits, fame and continued growth opportunities. Those who fail, suffer losses and become less prevalent in the markets."
    https://www.investopedia.com/terms/e/entrepreneur.asp

That tendency towards innovation, a willingness to learn & a desire to remain relevant in ever-changing markets are all necessary qualities of entrepreneurship.
Since starting this project we have had to make amendments to ensure that the service we provide remains relevant to our target audience (online entrepreneurs), and these community guidelines are merely our continued working towards this. We are doing our best to lead by example, as it was our lack of specificity that caused this problem. For this, we sincerely apologize.
Yes, these changes may result in the loss of some bloggers from our platform, however, that is part of the risk we have incurred as entrepreneurs, and we simply hope that those who remain, will continue to grow & improve along with us, as we are also learning.

In conclusion, let me reiterate that any skill or trade can be blogged about in an entrepreneurial way, however, it is up to the author to learn what it means to be entrepreneurial and then work towards presenting their content in such a manner if they wish to use the INT tag.

Simple additions like adding context, (eg. "this poem is part of a new online poetry series that I will be releasing over the course of the next month,") 1) - show cases a skill, 2) gives an idea of how the material will be presented, such that interested persons can follow along (client-base), and 3) incurs a sense of responsibility of the author to fulfill their initial 'mission statement', (ie 'order fulfillment' through the releasing the poetry series.) This is how businesses in the real world are run and we are simply seeking to implement these professional practices in the blogging space that we've created here.

I hope this expanded explanation helps to further clarify our intentions as a project moving forward. :)

Thank you for your explanation.
!BEER

Well, I just released my first post using the #int tag... even though I've been staked in the token for a while. The whole @intrepreneur idea is appealing to me, as someone who has been self-employed (most of the time!) since 1985.

I'll start by saying that I'm all in favor of content-moderated tribes! I know there'll be some whining about "freedom" and the blockchain being about "no-censorship" but to be fair about it... just how many people would be interested in being part of a (let's say) chess club that was constantly being usurped by people insisting on their right to discuss knitting? So hats off to you @crystalhuman for insisting on some measure of structure!

But to answer "what belongs," I guess we have to define "relevance." And that starts with the huge task of reducing the relevance of tag farming, being neutral towards "thin" content, and rewarding quality and relevance.

Having been part of Steemlandia back when quality content was still considered an objective, it my hope that the emerging tribes will be able to maintain small islands of relevance and quality, within the greater soup. And that generally will take work. I'm also hopeful that the HF.21 changes will make that work a little more bearable for the manual curators tasked with that work...

Bad post -
https://www.intrepreneur.life/actifit/@stupid/actifit-stupid-20190831t164301336z

This is an actifit report card that has nothing to do with entrepreneurship. So clearly this shouldn't be on Intrepreneur. A post on actifit talking about fitness, detailing types of exercises done and why, a post that educates people about exercise and/or motivates people may still qualify for int tag. That's because such a person would have written a genuine blog post for the benefit of others and can help him become an influencer and gain genuine following. Kind of like any other social media influencer on centralised social media platforms.

Good post -
https://www.intrepreneur.life/spt/@zaku-spt/110-beta-packs-opening-and-profit-calculation-176-5-return-on-investment

This is a great example of post that deserves to use int tag. Even thought the post is about splinterlands, it kind of brings my point above to light and also is an example of how blogging is entrepreneurial. The author has clearly tried to educate his audience about how investing in splinterland cards can be profitable. The post is quite informative. This can be good content for anyone interested in splinterland to read and can help the author gain a follower base that reads and curates his content.

P.s. does this comment qualify for both the quest and superquest?

I will be catching up with this quest later today... I also consider this quest/post part of what I call being a good witness.

Looking forward to seeing your entry matey & thank you for your kind words! :D

This is my own opinion/view ok!?

For not using the tag, definitively this one for example: https://steemit.com/appics/@sergiomendes/alpha-kw-8-appics-im-33946
Why? very simple, personally I think the post is just a blog type post or fun moment. Not related with being or having entrepreneur content. Also the user used the #int tag in 17 out of his last 20 posts (at least when I wrote this comment)... along with it you can also see many other token tags, constantly repeated. Sometimes it makes sense, sometimes not. He has staked a lot of tokens for sure, still, misusing the tag will not be of anyone's advantage, including himself.

For someone that deserves this tag, that's an easy one:
https://steemit.com/steemworld/@steemchiller/steemworld-weekly-support-41
Now, about @steemchiller... if you check his work it's obvious that he is an entrepreneur... and a valuable one. There are many around that would deserve the tag, but I really enjoy his work, since the beginning, and he is constantly battling with results, no matter the STEEM situation. Plus is for sure (or at least for me) the most complete tool out there that runs on any browser. I don't know how much risks he takes, but that's probably personal and none of my business, but the results, consistency and the time spent on STEEM are already great proofs to consider his commitment to this platform.
