The Steemit community is a breath of fresh air compared to cancerous Facebook!

Hello Steemit community!

I'm Abiogenesis and I joined the Steemit community on 6/12/2017, but due to work and a busy schedule, I wasn't able to make an introductory post until now. Better late than never though, right?  I did have an opportunity to browse through some blog posts and read a few comments and it was certainly both inspiring and a breath of fresh air from what I am accustomed to on other social media sites.

So, now let me take a moment to properly introduce myself to this amazing community and let you all in on what I'm about and what I am intending to bring to the community.

Personal Life

I'm currently 34 years old and live in a suburb north of Atlanta, GA with my amazing wife, our pit bull, Chomper, and our two cats, Toaster and Shady.

My wife and I have been married for three years now, although we had been dating and living together for 6 years prior to getting married. We finally were able to save enough to purchase our first home and we couldn't be happier.  We haven't had any children yet and haven't decided whether or not we will take that plunge, but it isn't out of the question.  Right now, we are just focused on our careers, building up savings for the future, and enjoying each other.

My wife and I are both huge animal and nature lovers and love going on walks and hikes with our dog, going camping, or just playing fetch in an open field.

I am also a HUGE disc golf enthusiast and try to get out and play or practice every day if possible.  I've only been playing for just over two years now, but I've come quite a long way since then and just recently won my first tournament! Disc golf is one of those things I wish I had heard about 15 years ago.

When I was in high school, I worked at a golf course and picked up playing golf while I worked there due to it being free for me to play. During that time, I got pretty good at it but I quit playing when I stopped working there because it was very expensive.

Disc golf, to me, is just as much fun as regular golf, but the cost is significantly lower. For the price of a single new high-end driver, you can get an entire set of disc golf discs, a bag, and still have money leftover. Not only that, but the vast majority of courses are found in local parks and do not cost anything to play on. So, when my buddy  introduced me to the game on a Memorial weekend trip two years ago, I was instantly hooked and have enjoyed it ever since.

When I'm not spending time with my wife, working, or playing disc golf, I enjoy playing World of Warcraft (Abiogenesis on US-Area52) and trading cryptocurrencies on the exchanges.

Professional Life

I graduated from Kennesaw State University in 2010 with a B.A. in Geography. My focus was in environmental geography and Earth Science. When I was going to school, my goal was to work in the field as a researcher. Unfortunately, when I got out of school I needed a better paying job quick so I could start paying off my student loans and didn't have time or the finances to continue getting my Masters or PhD to become a researcher.

So, I ended up getting a temporary job at a media marketing company where I did data entry for a few months and then had the opportunity to create some training material for their clients. They really liked the training material that I had put together and so they offered me a job as a technical writer and I took it. I worked there for 4 years, developing my technical writing ability and also delving into the instructional design field where I learned how to use authoring tools such as Adobe Captivate and Camtasia and also learned how to use Adobe After Effects.

Now, I work as a remote e-learning specialist for a large New York-based financial organization.  We specialize in commercial mortgage lending and the development, acquisition, and management of multifamily dwellings and we also operate a series of healthcare facilities in Florida and Iowa.

As the company's sole e-learning specialist, I create and maintain internal-facing training material for our employees.  I create both video content, focusing on microlearning, using Camtasia and also create more structured learning programs using Adobe Captivate.

I love my company because of their amazing culture and their focus on charity and giving back to our communities. Every year our company hosts a Day of Service event where we close our doors and all non-essential personnel spend the day doing charity work and giving back. In addition to that, the company offers many opportunities to participate in charitable activity and commits to giving 50% of our profits to charitable causes every year. It's truly a blessing to work for this company and to be able to see the impact that we have in so many people's lives.

What can you expect from me?

I mainly plan to use my blog to talk about disc golf related stuff. I want to detail my adventures out on the course, provide tips for people wanting to learn more about the sport, and share all of the reasons why I am so passionate about it.  From time-to-time I may also talk about things going on in my personal life, or things going on in World of Warcraft, or cryptocurrency-related things.

I hope you all will enjoy what I bring and hopefully it will encourage some of you to get out and give disc golf a shot!

Thanks for taking the time to read my introductory post!  I look forward to meeting you all and growing this awesome community with you!

Cheers!

Welcome! Great introductory post. I really should get around to doing one myself.

Welcome! I played a bit of disc/Frisbee golf when I was a student. I played some Ultimate, but was never that good at it. Maybe I should find a course, but I don't know of one anywhere near me. Anyway, I hope you have fun here. Steemit is a friendly place.
