Introducing AKMiller abstract expressionist extraordinaire

Hello

Steemers!

Here I am in black and white, this is a self-portrait I drew recently using a black marker pen

Me

I am Ana, a Manchester-based (UK) artist based at Mirabel Studios

I am passionate about art, music, life, politics, literature, film, gestalt psychotherapy, learning Spanish and loads more things, so I'll be posting about all sorts of things depending upon where my interest of the moment resides.

Right now, I want to talk about my art and music

Art

My paintings and drawings are often abstract and expressionist explorations of cities, their landscapes, people and cultures.

Manchester is often my muse, I love exploring the remnants of this beautiful, industrial, rainy city... I try to capture the soul that persists, despite the constant attempts to regenerate Manchester into an international identikit city.

Often my paintings, drawings, collages and photographs explore the strange juxtapositions of old and new that you can see all around:

Many of my paintings are built from layers of collage and paint. Starting with abstract shapes and colours, the initial layers are formed through intuition and chance, using papers, printing and colour to create textures, light and dark. Formed from layers of controlled experiments, the paintings follow the directions of the media: the way the paint drips and the paper buckles and tears create the textures and lines of subsequent layers.

Playing Music

I am also obsessed with collecting and playing music and I play records at various venues around Manchester

From the grooviest psychedelia to the deepest darkest disco to the funkiest electronic music, I like to play a wide mix of genres – my thing is often to clash songs/styles that aren’t always played together… At the moment I play lots of psychedelic world music, funk, blues, psychobilly, electronica, krautrock, disco and so on... as long as it has an edge and a groove

Here a few tips for starters snce you probably won't get any advice from those who comment under here, here's what I gathered thus far.
It's tough to make money at first so if that's your main cause to be on here grind that into your head straight away, that doesn't mean you shouldn't post content, you should, but enganging with others in the comment sections to grow your following is your best bet. Which categories?

Probably the introduce yourself one and the photography section but you can choose things that you have knowledge about too and then go from there just know that there is a lot of crap on here so plowing through that just to connect with others can be tough. Cheers.

Thanks for the advice... a friend recommended Steemit to promote my art, music, ideas etc. ... I'm just exploring it and trying to find my way.... How's it going for you?

Welcome Ana. I'd imagine that Manchester would have a lively music/arts scene, is that correct? Have you always lived there?

Yeah it has nice music and arts scene... a lot smaller than in London, but Manchester is great and the intimacy of the scene mean that you can get into it and find your way around it easily and nicely
